REMEMBER MOTHER.
Among all the toil and commotion of present day,
it is only right and proper that we should stop for a
few moments and turn our thoughts to our mother on
Mother’s Day.
On May 11, 1912, Mother’s Day was celebrated
all over this broad land, and will hereafter be cele
brated with as much regularity as Christmas. To
Miss Anna Jarvis of Philadelphia, Pa., we are in
debted for this day which is set apart for the pur
pose of at least thinking of our mothers. The white
carnation was chosen as the memory flower because
it grows everywhere and its whiteness symbolizes
the purity of a mother’s love, its endurance, her fi
delity.
On this second Sunday of the month, falling on
May 14th this year, let us make it a day sacred to our
mothers. She bathed us when we were helpless;
she rocked us to sleep when we were weary; she pil
lowed us on pillows softer than down, and sang to
us in the voice of an angel; she held our hand when
we learned to walk; she nursed us when we were
sick; she suffered with us in our sorrow; she laughed
with us in our joy; she gave strength for our weak
ness, courage for our despair, and hope to fill our
hopeless heart; she was loyal when others failed ;
she was our friend when other friends were gone.
Let’s remember mother.
