OREGON STATE COLLEGE—The first copy of the new pictorial
history of Oregon State College. "Orange and Black," recently published
by the O. 8. C. Alumni association In commemoration of the seventieth
anniversary of the founding of the college, was presented to Dr. William
Jasper Kerr by George Knutsen of Portland, president of the Alumr.l
association. The presentation was a recent Homecoming feature at the
college, at which time the sculptored plaque of Dr. Kerr, shown In the
Insert, was d-sdicated, after being placed over the fireplace in the Memorial
Union building by the clasa of 190«. A similar plaque of President Thomas
M. Oatch haa been placed over the second fireplace by the class of 1907.
The "Orange and Black" waa dedicated to Dr. Kerr, who was president of
the college for nearly X yean and than chancellor of the state system
until retiring as chancellor-emeritus la 19». The two cast stone plaques
commemorate the fact that Presidents Oatch and Kerr served the college
during the only two w an which have been fought by America in the 70
yean of the institution.
