The Lutheran picnic was held in
Columbia park Sunday, with church
services conducted In the morning
and a basket dinner at noon. Peo­
ple from Pendleton, Cayuse, Adams,
Keith and Echo, as well as Hermis­
ton, attended the picnic.
John Powell of Portland, nephew
of Mr. and Mrs. Duff Knight, has
been vieiting here three weeks and
will return to his home Friday.
Mrs. Mathew Gordon gave a
shower Friday afternoon, honoring
Mrs. Cecil Madden. Many dainty
gifts were received. The afternoon
was spent in visiting and playing
games. Prizes for the games went
to Mrs. Cecil Madden, Mrs. Theo.
Beletski, Mrs. Henry Hooker, and
Mrs. B. Hutchison. Delicious ice
cream, wafers and lemonade were
served.
Bobby Eaton, grandson of Mr.
and Mrs. P. H. Corman, spent last
week with his parents at Freewater,
returning Sunday.
Open house was held at the regu­
lar meeting of Columbia Grange
Tuesday night of last week. The
evening was spent in a social way,
visiting and eating ice cream and
cake. A good attendance was pres­
ent, and a verg enjoyable time was
reported.
Orville Cherry of Nampa, Idaho,
visited a week recently at the F. L.
Barnett home.
A surprise party was given Jesse
Moore at his home Saturday even­
ing, honoring him on his birthday.
About thirty young people were
present.
Refreshments of punch,
cookies and marshmallows were
served.

Marion Ott returned home from
Corvallis, Sunday, where she has
been visiting for several weeks.
Mr. and Mrs. Herman Leeper of
Yakima came Wednesday of last
week, and visited with Mrs. Mary
Harr until Saturday when Mrs. Harr
returned home with them for a
short stay.
Mrs T. Ellis, mother of Mrs. For­
rest Moore, is improving nicely from
a recent case of pneumonia. Mrs.
Moore ha« been acting as night
nurse for her mother at the hospi­
tal.
Mrs. Alice Wells of Pendleton ar­
rived Saturday to visit her son Or-
bie Wells and family, and old
friends.

Mr. and Mrs. Otis Buell and fam­
ily went to Pilot Rock Sunday to
view the flood destruction at that
place.
Mr. and Mrs. Oliver Hilton and
son who have been living on one of
Mr. Reid's places, are moving to La
Graude this week to care for his
mother.
Mrs. N. Edwards was a dinner
guest of Mr. and Mrs. Roy Pearson
Sunday.
Henry Wheeler was visiting his
sister Mrs. C. C. Weeks Sunday.
Nina Rae McCulley attended the
golden wedding celebration of Mr.
and Mrs. R. H. Elwood Sunday.
Mr. and Mrs. Barnett and daugh­
ter Joyce, Mr. and Mrs. John Dall-
man, Sr., and Mr. and Mrs. John
Dallman Jr. picnicked on the Uma­
tilla river Sunday.
Mrs. Henry Hooker is attending
the Christian Church convention at
Turner this week, going with a del­
egation from Hermiston.
Mrs. H. A. Wilson is reported ill
with summer flu.

were over night guests at the Art

ary meeting at the home of Mrs.
Milton Sharpe Thursday afternoon
with Mrs. Don Harryman leading.
The topic was “Whitman and Spaul­
ding.”
Mr. and Mrs. Harry Hull spent
last Wednesday afternoon visiting
Miw. Hans Rynning and daughter,
who are visiting her parents in
Stanfield. Mrs. Rynning was the
former Helen Fredreckson a n d
taught the fifth and sixth grade
here.
Mrs. Elmore McKenzie is quite
ill at her home here.
Mr. and Mrs. Carl Anderson and
daughter of Portland are visiting
the first of the week with her sister
and brother-in-law, Mr. and Mrs.
Jimmie Olson. Mr. and Mrs. Ander­
son lived here laet summer.
Miss Virginia Compton of Hilgard
arrived here Sunday to spend a few
days visiting Betty McKenzie.
Mrs. Addie Meacham and son Bill
Bennett have returned home after
spending several days attending pio­
neer days in Canyon City, Ore.
Mr. and Mrs. John Cover enter­
tained Saturday evening in honor of
Mr. and Mrs. Carl Anderson. Those
going were Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Boul­
ton, Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Sannee,
Mr. and Mrs. Benetly, Mr. and Mrs.
R. Ackers, Mr. and Mrs. Krane, Mr,
and Mrs. Mullins and Mr. Nickerson.
Miss Betty McKenzie was host to
a group of friends Sunday after
noon on her nineteenth birthday

Glenn Ostrom, Virginia Compton.
Max Ernest, Bob McKenzie and the
host.
Mrs. Janies Walsh and daughter
Sharon are at their home in Port­
land until they can find a house
here.
Mr. and Mrs. Bill Switzler spent
Friday in Walla Walla.
Mr. and Mrs. James Byrnes and
daughter Mrs. Louis Harryman and
children motored to Touchet Friday
where they spent the day visiting
friends and relatives. Joan Byrnes,
who has been visiting her aunt,
Mrs. Ed Byrnes, returned home with
them.
The Roger’s Construction Co. of
Walla Walla oiled six blocks on
Third street and 100 yards on A
street Monday. The city authorised
the work at a cost not to exceed

June 15, by Rev. A. F. VanSlyde,
pastor of the Christian church. Mrs.
Ostrom attended school here and
was a member of the class of ’38.
Mr. Ostrom came here five years ago
and has been associated with the
Texaco Oil Co. The young couple
will make their home here where
Mr. Ostrom operates the Texaco
Service Station.
Mrs. George Kendler and daugh­
ter Yvonne and father W. C. Isom
left Thursday for Coulee dam where
the former joined her husband to
make their home.
Mr. and Mrs. Joe Springer, Mr.
and Mrs. Fred Knudson and Mrs.
Jack Cherry returned Saturday from
Portland where they spent the week
at Grand Chapter of the Eastern
Star.
Mrs. A. E. McKenzie returned
Sunday from Klamath Falls where
she has been attending state Grange
sessions. She was elected Pomona
Master. She also visiter her sister.
