N ew port, K ern & K ibbie have, in
th e m eantim e, been p re p a rin g equip
m en t for th e job. They w ill move
in soon w ith tru c k s and pole h an d
lin g m achinery, and w ill em ploy 40
to 50 men in th e c o n stru c tio n of th e
lines. E ig h ty m iles of th e lines have
been staked and th e rem a in in g 40
m iles w ill be com pleted w ith in tw o
o r th re e weeks.

Mr. S tanfield, postm aster since
1935, died of a h e a rt a tta c k S a t
u rd ay n ig h t a t his home. B arking
of th e fam ily dog aroused Mrs.
S tanfield a t m id n ig h t and she found
him dead in his ch air, w here he
had been reading.
H e was a son of th e late R obert
N elson S tan field , pioneer of Um a
tilla county. He organized and was
cashier of th e B ank of Echo from
1905 to 1921. A son, Jack B. S tan
field. lives in P o rtlan d and a d au g h
ter, Mrs. R alph Jones, a t Boardm an.
He is survived by th e follow ing

sociation, an d consisted of five full
cars, billed to Los Angeles.
T he sh ip m en t consisted of 8435
birds w ith a to ta l w eight of 139,-
491 pounds. They filled 1570 cases
and th e average w eig h t was slig h tly
in excess of 16.5 pounds per bird.
T he p ercentage of prim e b ird s was
91.7.
In th e shipm ent were 7736 prim e
birds, w ith a w eight of 128,365
pounds; 555 choice birds w ith a
w eight of 8787 pounds, and
144
com m ercial w ith a w eig h t of 2339
pounds.
T he choice and com m ercial lots
were increased by several of th e
la rg e r grow ers clean in g up th e ir
e n tire flock.
