Notice of Budget Meeting for Umatilla County
NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN to the Taxpayers of Umatilla County,
State of Oregon, that a meeting will be held in the County Court Room of
the County Court House in the City of Pendleton, Umatilla County. Oregon,
on Saturday the 23rd day of November, A. D. 1935, at the hour of 10:00
o’clock A. M. of said day, for the purpose of discussing the budget for said
Umatilla County. Oregon, for the year 1936, with the levying board of said
County.
OBJECT OF EXPENDITURES
The following is the original estimate made in compliance with Chap
ter 118, Laws of Oregon for 1921, and shows in parallel columna the unit
costs of the several services, material and supplies for the throe fiscal years
next proceeding the current year, the detail expenditures for six months of
the current year, and the budget allowances for said current year 1935, to
gether with the total amount of money needed by said County during the
fiscal year beginning January 1st, 1936, and ending December 31st, 1936,
which said sums are as follows, to-wit:-

Mrs. W. O. Miller left Monday tor
Portland where she will spend the
winter with her son and family, Mr.
and Mrs. Lloyd Miller.
Rev. and Mrs. Herbert Thomas
and children Maryetta and Lee of
Boardman spent Sunday in Umatilla.
Maryetta was a guest at the Byrnes
home.
Mrs. E. McKenzie and daughters
Jean and Betty spent Saturday in
Portland. While there they visited
Mr. McKenzie, who is working in
Portland.
Sunday afternoon the Sunday
school teachers and officers of the
church held a conference to discuss
matters pertaining to the Sunday
school and church.
Mrs. H. B. Hull and Miss Clara
Corrigan left Friday for McMinn
ville to visit Miss Corrigan’s parents
on Armistice day.
Miss Sara Rix and Miss Rosa Ric
co left Friday for Prairie City where
they visited Miss Ricco’s parents
over Armistice day.
Mrs. M. M. McCullough, Mrs. Flor
ence Tipple and Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd
Ostrom spent Thursday In Walla
Walla.
The Umatilla C. E. society held
its monthly social Friday night at
the church, Rev. Thomas of Board
man was in charge of the entertain-
ment.
Mrs. Carl Brownell and Vivian Me
Fall of Portland, Mrs. Bill Graybeal
and Mrs. G. Graybeal of Irrigon
spent Thursday at the Mrs. Ervin
Chapman home. Mrs. Brownell is
Mrs. Chapman's mother.
The Civics class of Umatilla high
school gave the Armistice day pro
gram Friday.
Basketball has started for the high
school, grades and town teams.
Mrs. Alda Guerin, formerly of
Umatilla, and Bill Graybeal of Irri
gon were united in marriage Monday
in Prosser, Wn. They will make
their home In Irrigon where Mr.
Graybeal is emlpoyed.
Gus Tonies motored to Pendleton
Friday. He returned Saturday with
Mrs. Tonies and children, where they
visited with their father and friends
in Umatilla over Armistice day.
Miss Mildred Conlon, who is at
tending Willamette university in Sa-
lem, visited her parents, Mr. and
Mrs. W. A. Conlon during Armistice
day holidays.
The Christian Endeavor met at
7:00 o’clock Sunday evening and
elected new officers. They are: Pres
ident, Mrs. Bernice Brammer; vice-
president, and Look Out chairman,
Betty McKenzie; secretary, Marga
ret Brown; treasurer, Mrs. Melvola
Pike; prayer meeting chairman, Lo
la Berry; missionary chairman. Miss
M. Cox; social, Mrs. Barbara Bray;
and music, Mrs. Don Harryman.
Ernest Tippie. who is working in
a CCC camp near Baker, visited his
mother, Mrs. Florence Tippie during
the Armistice day week end.
Mr. and Mrs. Bill Switzler visited
over the week end in Maryhill.
Mr. and Mrs. George Pepper of
Plymouth had the misfortune of hav
ing an auto accident on the Pasco
road over the Horse Heaven hills
Thursday evening. They were on
their way to Pasco and hit loose gra
vel which turned their car over.
They were both badly cut and

bruised.
Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd McCullough
and daughter Rosemary left Monday
for Montana where they were called
by the death of McCullough's broth
er, Donald. Mr. McCullough was do
ing Evangelistic work in South Da
kota and is said to have died of a
heart attack. Donald McCullough
and wife visited in Umatilla over a
year ago from California enroute to
Montana.
A. E. Bensel of Hermiston, dele
gate to the Townsend club conven
tion in Chicago, spoke to the
Umatilla members Wednesday, Nov.
13, in the Community hall.
Earl Cherry and Donald Harry-
man are working on the Umatilla
ferry, substituting for George Pep
per, regular operator.

Last Friday night the seniors and
sophomore girls played the juniors
and freshmen girls in a game of vol
ley ball at the gym. They played
three games which only run up to
21 points. After the girls’ game the
boys played several games. Teams
were composed of grade and high
school boys. After the game the
high school enjoyed a party.
Mr. and Mrs. James Byrnes and
daughters Erma and Mrs. Paul
Walsh and daughter Verna Dale, mo
tored to Walla Walla Monday.
Mr. and Mrs. Bill Switzler, Mr.
and Mrs. Al Stephens, Anne Tum
mel, Mrs. Katherine Sherlock and
daughter Ann Mary, and Francis
Stephens attended the funeral of
Mrs. Stephen’s nephew, James Fran
cis Lingow of Starbuck, Monday.
Miss Yvonne Bousquet spent Sat
urday in Pendleton shopping.
Miss Laura Shall of Portland,
daughter of Earl Shall, will attend
school here for the rest of the school
year.
Miss Dorothy Tonies of Pendleton
spent the week end in Umatilla visit
ing friends.
Gus Tonies spent Saturday and
Sunday in Pendleton visiting Mrs.
Tonies and children.
, Jay Berry, who is working in The
Dalles, spent Monday in Umatilla
working for Jess Connell.
Mrs. David Lane of Pasco is visit
ing her mother, Mrs. Mable From-
dahl.
Mrs. Florence Tipple, Mr. and Mrs.
Lloyd Ostrom spent Saturday In Pen
dleton.
Four Grain Nurseries Seeded.
CONDON—Four fall grain nurser
ies were seeded during October by
Gilliam county farmers in coopera
tion with County Agent R. M. Mc-
Kennon and R. B. Webb of the Sher
man county branch experiment sta
tion. The seedings were made on
the farms of Jay Wright near May
ville, L. G. Parman near Condon, and
L. W. Childs on Shutter Flatt. Space
was taken off adjoining each fall
grain nursery to allow for the seed
ing of spring grain nurseries.
