The grade school won the game played with Lexington the same night, 16 to 12. Guy Barlow drove the school bus to furnish trans portation. Mr. and Mrs. Glen Mackan are In Portland for a few days this week Esther Jones is staying with Max­ ine while they are away. A miscellaneous shower was giv­ en Tuesday afternoon at the home of Mrs. Z. J. Gillespie, complimenting Mrs. Henry Graves. Mr. and Mrs. Howard Bates enter­ tained at dinner Tuesday evening Covers were laid for Mr. and Mrs Nick Faler, Mr. and Mrs. Dan Ran- sier, Mrs. Edwin Hug and children, and Simon Gent of Elgin. The Home Economics club held its regular meeting at the home of Mrs. Claude Coats, with about ten ladies present. A pot luck dinner was ser­ ved at one o’clock. Mr. and Mrs. Z. J. Gillespie and small son were business visitors in Hermiston Tuesday. A baby daughter, weighing 7 bounds, was born to Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Leland last Thursday, Decem­ ber 14. Both mother and baby are doing nicely. An old time dance will be given New Year’s Eve in the Boardman gymnasium, by the board. There will be no admission charge. Mr. and Mrs. Glen Macken receiv­ ed word this week of the illness oof Bob Haven, who recently suffered a stroke. Sunday dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. Tom Delano and son Frank, were Mr. and Mrs. Glen Mackan and family, Mr. and Mrs. Harry Jayne and Dave Johnston. A farewell party was given at the Community church Monday night, honoring Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Sur­ face. who will leave soon for Spo­ kane, Wn., to make their future home. At the regular meeting of Green- field Grange, Saturday night. Joint installation was held with the Irri­ gon Grange. Following the presenta­ tion of the initiatory work, a short program was given, and dancing en­ joyed. Bill Lalong received work of the i death of his father in Portland this [ week. Miss Lois Kruse is visiting her sister in Tillamook for a few days this week. Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Skoubo and children left for Portland last Sat­ urday to make their future home. Mrs. Rice and daughter Nadine and Geo. Bush returned from Port- | land. Friday night. Mrs. Rice is much improved in health following I her recent illness. i Roseburg to care for her two cous­ ins, who are children of Mr. and Mrs. Adair. They have been quite ill at their home. Mrs. Howard Gregory accompani­ ed her husband to Portland Tuesday morning. Fred Waid of Spokane is visiting his grandparents Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Waid., and Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Fred- reckson. Fred will remain until af­ ter the Christmas holidays. Mrs. Chas. Hoggard was hostess of the Pollyanna club at the home of Mrs. F. B. Stuart Wednesday after- noon. J. F. Rueber and son Leo went to Portland with a load of sheep Sun­ day. Jack O’Neil died at the Pendleton hospital Thursday morning after an illness of only a few days. O’Neil has been depot agent here for the past year. Miss Laura Wallace spent last week end at home with her father. The Parkdale schools have been closed because of a scarlet fever epi­ demic. Mrs. James Hutton returned home Monday from a week’s visit in Taco­ ma with her sister. The Ladies Aid were well pleased with the receipts of the bazaar held in the church basement Saturday evening. Every article was sold. A number of Mrs. Cora Olday's pup­ ils gave a dramatic skit during the afternoon. Miss Katherine Olday has charge of the Christmas pageant which will be given at the church Thursday evening.
