Dairymen who wish to sign the
Federal agreement and have their
dairy cows tested for abortion are
requested to do so as soon as possi­
ble.
Many dairymen are anxious to
have their animals tested as soon as
possible because of feed shortage,
but the testing cannot be started
until all have signed who intend
doing so. If testing should start now
and later someone decided to sign
up. It would cause extra work and
expense in back tracking to get his
herd tested. In special cases where
a delay Is unavoidable the farmer
should feel free to sign up at a later
date, but in most cases further de­
lay Is unnecessary.
Anyone who is hesitant about

derstanding. may get in touch with

yer. who will explain the program.
The success of this federal pro­
gram in stamping out the abortion
disease in this community is going
to depend largely upon how many
farmers take part. The Umatilla pro-
ject has already gone a long way
toward erdication of abortion. We
now have an opportunity to get fed­
eral aid in doing the things many
farmers have been trying to do with­
out any financial aid. The chances
of an opportunity of this kind com­
ing again is not likely and in the
future there is some possibility of
a clean-up program becoming com­
pulsory.
Dairymen are urged to help get
an abortion free area established
here. This will help in the sale of
dairy stock.

During the month of October the

bred Jerseys, producing 559.9 lbs.
milk, containing 23.7 lbs. fat.
Hart, a 6-year-old grade Jersey,
owned by Wm. Luttrell, was named
in the report as being one of the
two high rows In the association for
October, by producing 1454 lbs.
milk, testing 56.7 lbs. fat; and the
second high was Oxford’s Peaches,
owned by L. C. Dyer, producing 871
lbs. milk, testing 55.7 lbs. fat. She
is 4-years-old.
The report stated that due to re-
rent increase in the price of butter-
fat there is an increased demand for
producing cows. Good cows are
worth much more than buyers are
offering at the present, the report
continued. The report lists the fol­
lowing activities: Three boarders
were killed for beef; two cows died:
five cows were sold for dairy pur­
poses: two cows were purchased for
dairy purposes; Chas. Lynch sold a
registered Holstein bull to be used
as a herd sire; George Wurster ob­
tained a purebred Jersey bull tc
head his herd.
High herds to date, dry cows in­
cluded, for the eight months since
the beginning of the testing year are
listed as follows:
Over 20 cows: J. H. Reid, 36 grade
Jerseys, averaged 4394.2 lbs. milk
and 220.8 lbs. fat; Alpha Chrlstley,
38 grade Jerseys and Guernseys,
averaged 4492.8 lbs. milk and 216.9
lbs. fat.
From 12 to 20 cows: L. W. Owens,
20 pure bred Jerseys, averaged
4676.3 lbs. milk and 213.7 lbs. fat;
Wm. Luttrell, 16 grade Jerseys, av­
eraged 4668.7 lbs. milk and 206.2
