Spokane, Wash.—Soundings of the
Columbia River are being taken to
letermine the exact ' contour of the
river bottom, according to F. A.
Banks, federal engineer in charge of
the Grand Coulee construction.
For this work, the engineers are
using a 28-foot launch, which will
also be used in surveying the banks
of the river above the dam to deter­
mine what land will be overflowed.
A topographical survey of the en­
gineers' campsite has been comple­
ted, and surveys will now be made
tor streets, and sewer and water sys­
tems.
