May 9 and 10 and Is open to all high
schools of U m atilla county. An en
trance fee of $2.00 w ill be charged
each school taking part In the tourn
ament and drawings w ill be held at
the Hermiston Highschool Thursday
afternoon at four o'clock. A ll princi
pals are Invited to be present.

singles, boys’ doubles, girls’ singles,
girls’ doubles and mixed doubles. The

ty Cup at the tournament last yeai

sents the first half of the Union Pa
cific's 1939 tax. Payments of the
first h alf of 1929 tax Is due at this
time. Payments of the last half w ill

According to L. . Hobbs, tax agent
of the railroad, the Union Pacific’s
total tax In Oregon for 1929 amounts
to 91.330,178,90 which places the
road among the heaviest taxpayers In
the state. This one and one third m il

On the night of November t l , 1892,
two men came down the side of the
mountain and slew him. His head was
nearly severed from bis body, and his

had been ransacked. The murderers,
evidently chagrined at their Inability
to locate the hidden treasure, chopped
the furniture In the building Into small
hits perhaps with the same ax with
which they had slain tbelr victim.
