Six Months CAUKORNIA LURE TOO GREAT Some time ago a n th e r paper carried an article referr ing to a great loss to our city. Now since the editor of this noteworthy publication has taken our interest to heart, we might say that according to the best obtainable information at hand that this party left here for Arling ton seeking employment on the new bridge to be con structed across the Columbia river at that city. Learning that this project was not tto be constructed in the nearfut ure, and no employment was in sight except sheep herding, proceeded to California where employment was secured with a broadcasting station located on the Golden Gate, which station we are informed proposes to build a bridge from San Francisco to Japan. Hermiston loss is California gain, and this party will be employed in the above mentioned construction work as a pile driver. The army plane “Quesstion Mark” was forced to land yesterday after more than 160 hours spent in the air with its intrepid crew of aces. All existing records for sus tained flight were broken by the big ship which expected to remain aloft ten days if possible. A dead motor caus ed the airmen in control to make a landing. Physical ex amination of the five aces proved that their condition was excellent after the long flight aloft. It was another step forward in the field of aviation. In the good old days it took a real back yard brawl to disturb other neighbors and cause comment. Now since the days of radio, neighbor children having electrical toys blocks away, cause the modernités to appeal to authorit- ive sources for peace and comfort. Lowell, Despain Block, Pendleton, Oregon, within six s months from the date hereof, with proper vouchers. Dated this 12 day of December, 1928. ROBERT F. THOMPSON, 15-5tc Administrator A COMPLETE water plant is a part of every autom obile as it is a part o f every m od ern city. T he purpose o f this water plant is to keep the engine cooled to a tem perature that w ill make it efficient in oper ation. If it were not fo r this, the cylinder walls wotdd be com e overheated and the pistons refuse to operate. T he cooling system o f the new Ford is particularly in teresting because it is so sim ple and reliable. W hen the radiator is fu ll o f water, the engine o f the new Ford will not overheat under the hardest driving. Yet the water is so regulated that it w ill not im pair en gin e operation by running too cold in winter. T he coolin g surface o f the Ford radiator is large, with four rows o f tubes set in staggered position so that each receives the fu ll bene fit o f the incom ing air. T he fan is o f the airplane pro peller type and draws air through the radiator at the rapid rate o f 8 5 0 cubic feet per m inute at 1 0 0 0 revolutions per m in ute o f the m otor. T he hot water around the cylinder head is drawn to the radiator to be cooled by a centrifugal water puinp o f new design. The entire coolin g system o f the new Ford is so sim ple in design and so carefully made that it requires very little attention. The radiator should be kept fu ll, o f course, and drained once each m onth so that sedim ent will n o t collect and retard the free passage o f water. In cold weather, a reliable anti-freeze* solu tion should be added. As ow ner and m anager o f this im portant water plant you should also see that the water pum p and fan shaft arc properly lubricated and t h e p a c k in g a r o u n d th e pum p shaft kept in adjust ment. H o se c o n n e c tio n s m ay also need replacem ent after long service. For those little adjustm ents, it pays to call on the Ford dealer. H e works under close fac tory supervision and he has been specially trained and equipped to do a thorough, com petent job at a fair price.
