Hatching results obtained In the
1927 .cason by the poultry depart
ment of the Oregon Agricultural
college at the experimental farm are
as follows:
From 2529 barred Plymouth rock
eggs Incubated 1374 good chicks were
obtained, or 58.2 per cent of all eggi
«•t. Fertility was 87.7 per cent,
dead germs 8.1, cripples 1.2, dead In
the shell 14.2.
From 2231 white leghorn eggs In
cubated 1478 good chicks were ob
tained or 66.2 per cent of all eggs
set. Fertility was 91.7 per cent,
dead germs 8.1, cripple« 1.2, dead in
in the shell 16.8.
These figured do not ln any sense j
constitute a record, says F. L. Know!-1
ton, poultry husbandman at the col- (

satisfactory for pedigree hatching.
Every chick was individually pedi

of two old hens and 13 of their two-

Knowlton believes Indicates that the
two old hens, which showed good
hatchablllty previously, have pass
ed that character on to 'heir daugh- i
iters, as It was hoped they would. ;
From five white leghorns and1
eight barred rocks a 100 per cents
hatch wa« obtained. From 14 white
leghorns and 11 barred rocks a 90
per cent or better hatch was obtain I
