Testing breeding flocks of poultry
for bacillary white diarrhea by the
college experiment station is steadily
advancing reports Dr. W. T. Rob
erts, poultry pathologist.
Blood
samples are taken of every individ
ual fowl in the flock and sent to the
department of veterinary medicine
where it is analyzed.
The. object of this work is to find
which are infected with bacilllary
white diarrhea germs. Flocks aré
tested once a year or more accord
ing to the seriousness of the disease.
Some flocks are found entirely free
from disease and recommendations
are made by the department of
veterinary medicine to ketp them
free. Already 29500 chickens have
been tested so far this year and Dr.
Johnson expects that It will reach
100,000 next year.

The eeoond nutrition echool for
housewives of the west end of the
county will be held in the Baptist
church Thursday, April 28, between
the hours of 10 A. M. and 3:30 P.
M.. according to Mrs. Charles Kel
ler, chairman of the Farm Bureau
economics project which is sponsor
ing the school.
w
Miss Lucy A. Case, nutrition spec
ialist of the extension service of the
O. A. C., will be in charge of the
school. In the morning she will pre
pare health salads and discuss salad
niaklsg. At noon the salads will be
served as part of the luncheon.
Each woman attending has been
asked to bring enough sandwiches
for one person. Hot dishes will be
prepared by the Farm Bureau com
mittee. No charge will he made for
the lunch.
In the afternoon Miss Case will
discuss the topic, “Feeding Mothers
and Children.’’
Previously the date for the second
school was announced as Wednesday,
April 27, but due to the fact that
the meeting on that date would have
conflicted with the Union Pacific
dairy special train, the date was
changed.
,
More than 60 housewives attended
the first meeting, and it is expected
that the attendance will show a
material increase for the second m eet-1
lng. Appreciation of the work done'
by Rev. A. J. Ware in heating the
church and aiding to make the first
meeting a success was expressed by
members of the home economics pro
ject of the Farm Bureau.
