struction into K lam ath Falls, Or., and
was instructed to co n tract w ith the
Southern Pacific road for jo in t use of
th a t system ’s lines in th e territo ry .
A petition of th e Oregon public se r­
vice comm ission for a reopening of
the com m ission’s ‘ investigation Into
the controv^Iÿy over th e new con­
stru ctio n in th e K lam ath basin was
denied.
The S outhern Pacific w as directed
to p resen t to th e Oregon T runk w ith­
in 25 days a co n tract giving the Ore­
gon T runk jo in t use of th e line from
Paulina and K lam ath Falls, w ith p er­
m ission for e ith e r road to perform
local service or to co n stru ct branches

th e tw o-thirds required fo r Invocation
of th e seldom-used d rastic rule. T his
action probably will assu re passage of
th e prohibition m easure and gives It

ures deadlocking th e upper house In

ines a t w ork in the new h a tc h in g
house w ith in dications p o in tin g to
th e necessity of ad d in g to the m ach ­
ine equipm ent in a sh o rt tim e. F o u r­
teen of th e in cu b ato rs a re heated by
electricity , and th e o th e rs are oil
burners. The electric m achines are
all new an d have been in sta lle d re ­
cently.
The h a tc h in g house, com pleted in
F eb ru ary , m easures 27 by 58 feet.
Its capacity, unless double or trip le
deck arra n g e m e n ts are follow ed, is 35
n achines. and its floor space may all
be utilized d u rin g the firs t season.
