corn bo rer has en tered Illinois, one
of the g reatest corn grow ing states
of th e Union.

sion of corn grow ing sta te s were re­
ceived.
Specim ens of th e b o rer found in
Illinois have been sen t to W ashington

The b o rer has been m oving into the
corn te rrito ry a t the ra te of 150 inileB
or more a oeason, and, according to
testim ony a t th e house agricultural
hearing, is destroying corn in a dozen
states, and Is advancing rapidly from
Ohio and Indiana fa rth e r in to th e m id­
dle west.
OREGON JAPANESE INCREASE

tion of Oregon has increased during
the p ast tw o years, while th eir prop­
erty holdings have decreased, accord­
ing to a rep o rt prepared here by C.
H. Gram, sta te labor com m issioner.
Chinese resid en ts of Oregon have d e ­
creased, while th eir p ro p erty holdings
have increased.
The Jap an ese population in Oregon
is 5222, an increase of 588 in the past
two years. The Jap an ese own 6000
acres of land in th e sta te of Oregon,
with an assessed value of $294,020.
The C hinese population is 2308, a
decrease of 1280 during th e p a st two
years.
