Last Friday night the eighth grade
basket ball teams, both boys and
girls, encountered the Umatilla 8th
grade teams In a basket ball game,
which proved to be a victory as well
as a defeat for the locals. The girls
succeeded in defeating their antago.
nlsts by a score of 13 to 2, while the
boys were beaten 8 to 7. Neverthe
less the boys showed the old fight
all through the game and are deter,

The grades have been diligently
working on a program which is to
be staged some time near the middle
of February. Their foremost object
in giving this program is to raise
enough money to finish paying for
the phonograph they purchased some
time ago and also to buy athletic
equipment for the different teams.
One of the most interesting events
on the program is a mock trial. All
the grades are furnishing entrants
for the trial and it will no doubt be
a very interesting undertaking. The
public is very cordially invited to at
tend, and, although the admittance
fee has not yet been definitely de
cided upon, the program will un
doubtedly be worth the money as an
evening of entertainment.

In a hard fought contest between
the Helix girls and tho Hermiston
girls last Saturday night the former
were victorious by a score of 12 to
8. The Hermiston boys were more
successful, defeating the Helix boys
39 to 8. The cause o flhe local boys’
success was due largely to the fact
that they shut their eyes when they
shot for te basket, says an ”autor_
