Hermiston Saturday by A. D. Smith
from his farm seven miles South
west of town. One of the sweet po
tatoes, of the Nancy Hall variety,
weighed a little over three pounds.
This section will produce the fin
est potatoes in the country according
to Mr. Smith who has been here
since 1903. There is no reason why
the project should not rank among
the leading potato sections of the
United States, he says, if the proper
attention is given their production.
There was but one shack where
Hermiston now stands when Mr.
Smith came here 19 years ago. He
has seen it develop from nothing
into a thriving town of more than
700 in the heart of one of the rich
