LODGE DIRECTORY
An unusually p erfect and b eantlfnl
«sample of the atmospheric spokes
which may occasionally be seen radL
atlng from the setting sun was wit
nessed In England in July last year.
Five distinct bands of a light salmon
pink color, separated by five corre
sponding bands of pale blue, were vis
ible, stretching up into the heavens
from the sinking sun.. The phenomenon
lasted about an hour, and later on the
same evening a violent thunderstorm
broke over the place where the spec
tacle had been witnessed. There are
a number of other Instances on record
hi which sim ilar phenomena have been
followed by thunderstorms.

Use Mesmerism In Breaking In Hoi
The world's best horseback rider Is
»aid to be ex-Lieut.
Pietro Hu-
denko, once of the Imperial Russian
hussars and now a w aiter at the An-
gloAuierlcun club of Belgrade, Jugo
slavia.
He claims never to have failed to
break and tam e the wildest horse. He
says he does not use strength and agil
ity, but mesmerism. He tukes a wild
horse, sills, a halter on Its head, passes
a rope twice through Its mouth, jumps
on Its back without a saddle, gets a
knee g rip and lets the horse rear, buck
or run at will. A fter the horse Is tired
he pets It, whispers strange words Into
Its ear, words known to a few Coo-
sacks of the Cnsplan steppes, and then,
never ggaln, will th at horse bite or
kick or disobey a man.
Pietro soon Is to become trainer and
horsehreaker for King Alexander.

“Rush Hours
99
In all lines of business patronage is irregu
lar. Street cars, stores, banks and restau
rants have their “rush hours” when some
delays in service are unavoidable. The
public, with the situation before its eyes,
good naturedly accepts a degree of incon
venience.
There are “rush hours” in a telephone
exchange.
W ith business service the
“loads" of telephone traffic are determined
by commercial activities, hanking hours,
etc.— the “ load” of the residence telephone
varies with household and social needs.
The demands upon the telephone oper
ator and a complicated mechanical equip
ment cannot be seen, but telephone traffic
varies in every hour of every day accord
ing to the individual desires of thousands
of patrons.
If there should be at times a delay in
answering your call, remember that trained
young women with nimble fingers are do
ing their best to serve you, and that at the
moment there may be a “rush” of telephone
traffic.
T he exercise of patience and considera
tion will mean better service.
