It is perhaps too much to say th a t
1922 w ill be a big year. F ran k ly we
don’t th in k it w ill, eith er h ere or
anyw here else. It is not to be expect­
ed th a t th e w orld w ill get back to
prosperity so soon a fte r a g re a t spree
like th e g re a t w ar. b u t th ere is no
reason for depression and unem ploy­
m ent w hen th ere is a world to be
clothed, fed and reb u ilt a fte r th e de­
stru c tio n o f 1914-1918.
B usiness men in H erm iston are
very much encouraged. If you doubt
I t nttk them . T hey find business
grad u ally p icking up and they find
money m ore p len tifu l. T his is due
to the paym ents w hich th e hay grow ­
ers are receiving and to new In d u st­
ries like th e cream ery.
These a re h ealth y signs and they
mean th a t we are all going to be kept
busy. We a re not going to get rich
in 1922, b u t we are going to have
w ork to do. Good bye Mr. D epres­
sion, you've stayed too long as it is.

stocks could be boosted and they
could p ro fiteer a t the expense of th e

dustry . T h at is why they refused to
a tte n d th e P ittsb u rg conference and
thereby flouted mid defied th e B itum ­
inous Coal commission and thro u g h
it the n atio n al governm ent. On th e
