alarm was turned In bore and all the
volunteers turned out In record time
and rushed to the firehouse. They
were astonished to find the door open,
and the apparatus missing. A search-
log party was formed and scoured the
aatuitry. while the telephone wires
towns to be on the watch for the bold­
est gang of bandits to appear on the
Island.
As morning came on the searching
parties returned without a due, and
started for the Art-house to decide on
a campaign. Aa they neared the house,
some one noticed the door waa closed.
Inside, the engine stood In Its place,
the hose neatly rolled. An unidentified
man had been driving a truck near

ran the two miles to the firehouse.
