Orchard trees and especially the
young ones should be protected against
rabbits, field mice and other rodents
that destroy the bark during the fall
and winter. The most effective time
for this work Is during November.
Field mice can be kept from damag­
ing the trees by mounding earth
around the base of each tree, says Or­
ange Judd Farmer. The mounds should
be about 15 inches across and cover
the trunk for a height of 8 inches.
