An Ordinance to Adopt the City
Budget for the year 1920 and fix­
ing the Tax Levy upon the Prop­
erty within the City for said year.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY
OF HERMISTON
Section 1. That there be and is
hereby levied upon the taxable prop­
erty within the City of Hermiston
for the year 1920 a total of $6,335,
being $4,835 for the various city
funds and $1,500 for interest on
bonds, to cover the following budget
adopted by a resolution which pass­
ed the Council and was approved by
the Mayor on the 5th day of Novem­
ber, 1919, to-wit:

County Agent Fred Bennion was
down from Pendleton Monday and
at a meeting at the II .M. Sommerer
home, assisted the Columbia farm­
ers in organizing a farm bureau in
this district. F. Wattgaman was
elected president and F. P. Phipps
secretary. Mr. Wattgaman will have
charge of the dairy work, Henry
Ott rabbit extermination, H.
Sommerer boys and girls club work,
F. P. Phipps farm accounts. At a
meeting in Pendleton December 20
the county bureau will be organized.
Mr. and Mrs. Blessing. Sr., and
Mr. and Mrs. Blessing, Jr., and the
boys were Thanksgiving guests at
the T. H. Haddox home.
Thanksgiving guests at the Wau-
gaman home were Mr. and Mrs. Gus
Linder.
Prof, and Mrs. Voelker and chil­
dren were Thanksgiving guests at
the Phipps home.
M L. Parks of Seattle is staying
at the Graham home while her look­
ing over the district with a view to
locating.
Mazie, Emma and Frankie Knap­
ton returned to Pendleton Sunday
after spending the Thanksgiving
holidays here with their father.
Mrs. W. N. Wheeler has taken a
clerical position in the Hermiston
Drug Co. store.
A combined meeting of Columbia
Grange and the Farm Bureau Is call-
ed for Wednesday evening. Decem-
ber 10th, at 7:30 P m. County
Agent Bennion and Miss Harmon
will be present. Evereyonc, whether
a member or not of either organiza­
tion. is urged to be present, as mat­
ters of vital interest to the commu­
nity will be presented.
HIGH SCHOOL NOTES

Nine new pupils have entered the
grades.
Miss Condon has almost recovered
from an operation in rhlch her ton-
sils and adnoids were removed.

Mr. Silvey, a newcomer from
Wasco, who bought 40 acres a short
distance southwest of town, is pre­
paring much of the tract for seeding
to alfalfa in the spring. He Is at
present having a deep well sunk on
the place by J B. Beebe.

Judge J. T. Embry supplied 63
fine turkeys to the Portland and Ta-
cenia markets for Thanksgiving, for
which he received the highest mar­
ket pi ice. Altogether he has sold
$284 worth of turkeys this fall, and
still has 33 left.

J. McCoy, proprietor of the Sec­
ond Hand Store, suffered loss of a
valuable shotgun and a quantity of
pocket knives when his store was
entered Tuesday night and robbed by
a wandering boy in hard luck whom
lie had fed and befriended.

District Game Warden Albee of
Helix passed Tuesday and Wednes­
day looking over the project on his
game protection mission. He said
a violation or two of the game laws
had been reported to him from this
neighborhood which he, was check­
ing up. Taken altogether, however,
lie was of the opinion that sports­
men hereabouts were behaving very
well indeed.

Clark Mansfield made a trip to
Pendleton last Saturday in the inter­
ests of the local Cooperative Cream­
ery Co., in which establishment he
holds the position of buttermaker.
He said on his return that Pendle-
tonians arc beginning to crave for
“Made in Hermiston” butter, there
now being a number of merchants
in that city handling the product.
