Roosts and Woodwork Should Be
Painted With Mixture of Coal Oil
and Carboiic Acid.
To keep the henhouse and chicken
coops free from lice the roosts and
the woodwork should be pointed with
a mixture of coal oil, one quart, and
crude carbolic acid or crude cresol,
one gill. Lime wash, applied hot, will
kill the lice and also the eggs. Kero
sene emulsion Is equally good. To kill
the germs and disinfect the house,
remove all the hens, close up the
house and fumigate with sulphur, then
apply a coat of hot lime-wash. This
Is a safe and very effective method—
none better.

Cows Officially Tested
Two hundred and sixty-two Ore

Three breeds—
Jerseys, Guernseys and Holsteins—
from 19 different herds, won honor
and rank by reaching the standards
set by the national breed associa-

“This indicates that Oregon

The world's history is a divine poem
of which the history of every nation
is a canto and of every man a word.
Its strains have been pealing along
down the centuries, and, though there
have been mingled the discords of
roaring cannon and dying man, yet to
the Christian philosopher and historian
—the humble listener—there has been
n divine melody running through the
song which speaks of hope and
halcyon days to come, History Is but
the unrolled Scroll of prophecy.—
James A. Garfield.
