early history regarding the efforts
made to secure the routing of the
highway through this city, and re-
cited how the West End Good Roads
association had been successful. He
told of that organization recom
mending that the highway pass up
Fourth street and make the turn at
the P. P. Sullivan corner, and how
the state engineer had conformed to
this route and the survey made. Now
it had been changed for no valid
purpose that he could see, and in or-
der to change ii back to the first
planned route he offered a resolu-
tion to this effect. This resolution
was finally adopted, but not before
West Siders had aired their griev
ance over the highway having been
diverted from the west side of Her
miston Butte to a route paralleling
the railroad from the drain ditch up
to this city. The motto to help one
another was exemplified by the pas
sage of ’another resolution to have
the route of the road changed back
to the old survey on the west side of
the butte, after which the meeting
adjourned.

Side that has been the rented home
of herself and Mr. Johnson for a
long time. The lady drove a good
bargain, and Is now content over the
fact that they own their own home
and need have no future fear of
some one buying the place and dis
commoding them to the extent of
having to look up other living quar-
ters.
At a meeting of the board of di
rectors in the library last Monday
night arrangements were made for
the dates on which the annual Dairy
and Hog Show is to be held and at
the same time a plan was outline I
for giving it the widest publicity. In
conjunction with the show this year
will be held the State Dairymen’s
convention, which is expected to
draw a large number of dairymen
from the west side of the mountains
as well as from all over Eastern Ore
gon.
At the meeting of . the directors,
which consist of Geo. A. Cressy, P.
P. Sullivan. H. Sommerer. II. T.
Fraser and C. M. Jackson, the first
named gentleman was elected presi-
dent and the last named secretary

Dairy and Ilog Show were set by the
