One of the most pleasant social
functions of the past week was the
dinner given Sunday evening at the
home of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Hinkle
in the Meadows near Stanfield.
Their guests were Mr. and Mrs.
Voelker, Mrs. Tooley, Miss Kittie
Short, Mr. and Mrs. Walter Hinkle,
Dale Hinkle, Dr. Gale, Miss Clarice
Watson and Carrol Akers. After
dinner the evening was devoted to
music.
Today, April 19, the annual
Track Meet and Declamatory con-
test is being held in Stanfield, The
participants in this contest were
chosen through try-outs in the lo-
cal schools, The winners in this
district meet are sent to meet in a
final County contest held in Pendle-
ton two weeks hence. The names
of the representatives from the
Hermiston school will be published
next week
Fire which originated in a smoke
house on the Charles Baker ranch
just east of the city Monday during
curing operations of a large num
ber of choice hams took many peo
ple from here on a hurry up call.
Being outside the fire limits a
bucket brigade was used instead,
but this made little headway, as
the flames had gained such a long
lead as to completely' destroy the
smoke house and between $150 and
$200 worth of pork that was owned
and being cured jointly by Mr. Bak
er, E. P. Dodd and Walter Rees.
JOHNSTON ALFALFA MOWERS
w
Supplementing our last four advertisements, wc desire to add Johnston facts as follows:
All
parts where breakage is liable to occur arc made from cither malleable iron or steel. Every mach-
Ine is thoroughly tested before leaving the factory. The cutter bar and knife are attached and the I
machine run at a much higher rate of speed than when in use. By this means the correct meshing of |
all gears is ascertained and corrected. Every effort Is made to produce a substantial and durable
mower and our customers may feel assured that in purchasing a Johnston they are buying a mach- |
ine that has more good, honest qualities than any other make. The closing lesson on why to own a
Johnston Alfalfa Mower will appear in the next issue of this paper and the week following a factory
man will be in Hermiston to prove why the Johnston is best. Wc want all ranchers to meet this AL-
FALFA MOWER SPECIALIST, who has made this ONE THING ALONE his business for many years
and WHO KNOWS.
Certainly !
Buy a Johnston.”

Mr. Cramer,

Or some very sandy road?
We would like to show you the

And most important—ask the
owner of a CHEVROLET what his

We admit that you don't get full
