stroyed in this vieluity by having
the bark removed by porcupines.
R W. Allen reports that several
young orchards have been seriously
damaged during the past few years.
A vigilant search about the pre
mises with a dog will usually result
in finding the intruding animals,
as they usually stay close to where
they feed and are easy to overrun.

Of Latin Derivation.
Corps is a French word derived
from the Latin corpus, a body, either
civil or military, as a police corps, ma
rine corps, etc. It does not signify
any particular number, but an organ
ized body. In the United States army
a corps consists of two or more divi-
slons, each containing three brigades
and each brigade three regiments. The
term first came into use in this country
during the Civil war period.
Referring to our advertisement of
fering a farm record book to any
farmer who is interested enough tc
keep the records, Mr. R. V. Gunn,
farm management demonstrator of
the Oregon Agricultural College, has
kindly consented to come to Hermis
ton on Monday evening to meet the
farmers of this community and ex
plain to them the importance oi
farm records, manner of keeping the
records, etc. We want to hear from
at least 25 farmers today so we can
notify Mr. Gunn. Phone or call.
