Let us forget business and put all efforts into this work.
The need is great and cur best efforts should be given
this cause. The important thing at hand now is war.
All other matters are insignificant. No sacrifice should
be too great to carry on the work and our share of the
$30,000 pledged by Umatilla county must be raised dur
ing this week. Think it over. Be liberal and meet the
committee who will call on you with prompt response in
order that their work may be quickly done.

school house in Hermiston the annual
meeting of District 14 will be held.
In addition to the budget there is a
director and clerk to elect. The new

election to vote at school meetings.
The Civic club strawberry and ice
cream social Friday evening of last
week at the Briggs farm was a decid
ed success. Fully 150 people were
present, tbe crowd from town being
taken out in cars, many drivers mak
ing two trips. A feature that added
much to the pleasure of the evening
was the music by the band, the boys
generously offering to go out for the
evening without charge. The evening
was pleasant and the large lawn at tbe
Briggs home offered a splendid place
on which to gather. The club wishes
to thank all who contributed to the
success of the agair.
