Follow ing th e devotional service
talk s w ere given by H. L. *St. C lair,
p asto r of the church in 1902-3; by
the Rev. E. H orstm ann, p astor of
Zion Evangelical church, and by
Mrs. J. H. Wood, who tirst cam e to
lire sh an i 40 y ears ago when her
husband was appointed pastor of
the stru g g lin g church. She told of
the d ilapitated condition of the
ch u rch and parsonage at th a t tim e
and of the early im provem ents
which w ere made. Mr. and Mrs.
Wood served a p asto ra te in la te r
y ears and m ade fu rth e r im prove
ment to th e property. Mrs. Wood
expressed her in te rest in the grow
ing ch u rch as she has know n it.
and her hope for its continued
grow th in stren g th and usefulness
to the com m unity.
The church plans w ere turned
over by the p astor to the official
board as the building com m ittee.
Mrs. H. L. St. C lair received them
as se creta ry of th e board, accepting
on behalf of th e m em bers the r e
sponsibility of the undertaking.

by oth er m em bers and friends p re s
ent.

found dead at th e S chiller w aiting
sta tio n of th e P. E. P. Sunday
m orning. H eart failu re was a ttr ib
uted as th e cause of his death. E vi
dences of th is w ere found as he
had rem oved his collar and tie and
had unbuttoned his sh irt, in d icat
ing th a t he had felt the fainting
a tta c k com ing on.
L etters of identification were
found in the m an's pocket show ing
his nam e to be W illiam W illiams.
His nam e was reported to be W il
liam Cook, according to P ortland
n ew spapers, but the nam e of W il
liam Cook was seen by several
G resham men who viewed th e body,
to be on th e re tu rn add ress of an
envelope found in his pockets, and
the nam e “'W illiam W illiam s" on
th e envelope itself. T he coroner
took ch a rg e of the body and re
moved it to P ortland.
