Michel E ckert died a t his home
n ear Rockwood Septem ber 16. the
last of a fam ily of niue children.
F u n eral services w ere held Sunday
at the Rockwood church under the
direction of th e G ates F u n eral
home. The Rev. J. F. Dunlop of
ficiated at th e funeral services and
in term ent w as m ade in Douglas
cem etery.
The deceased was born A pril 1,
1845, at O gdensburg, New York. In
1867 he went to Jordan, M innesota,
and on Octobe 6, 1863. was m arried
to M iranda Meric. They hom e
steaded in North D akota in 1908
and farm ed th e re for 12 y ears long
er. In 1920 they cam e to Oregon,
locating near Rockwood, w here he
lived until the tim e of his death.
Mr. E ck ert is survived by a
widow and five children, th ree sons

little or nothing is ta u g h t to them
about A m erican health heroes who
have offered th e ir lives in a w ar
ag a in st disease germ s. It is only
w ithin th e p a st y ear th a t the
heroic deeds of these A m erican p a
trio ts have been recorded in books
th a t a re available for wide d istrib
ution in the public schools. This
work has been done by the M etro
politan Life In su ra n ce com pany in
a series of 24-page booklets en
titled “H ealth H eroes.” T hus far,
four of th ese booklets have been
published and can be had free of
•charge from the P o rtlan d b ranch of
th e M etropolitan and also from th e
office of the Oregon T uberculosis

th e Canal Zone from th is pest and

been m ade for a social evening
which w ill be in the n a tu re of a
reception for th e teach ers and th e
en ro lling of m em bers for th e P a r
en t-T eacher association. All p a r
