Guernsey Picnic to Be
at Boring, June First

G uernsey picnic, w hich w ill be held
a t th e Cascade farm owned and op­
e ra te d by J. A. and T. J. Richey, on
W ednesday, Ju n e 1. A program is
being prepared, and some m en who
have m ade a study of the dairy b u s­
in ess and who are the b reeders of
p u reb red stock w ill be p rese n t and
give ta lk s along these lines. An
old fashioned bask et dinner w ill
be served a t noon.
T he herd of pure bred G uernsey
c a ttle on Cascade farm will be in ­
spected. T his herd, w hich consists
of about 30 head, is one of th e best
in th e county and ra n k s am ong the
very best in the state. T he Richeys
have one im ported cow, b u t the
m ost ou tstan d in g anim al and the
one th a t the m ost in te re st is cen­
te re d on a t p re se n t by m em bers of
th e G uernsey association of the
co unty is th e herd bull. T his a n i­
m al w as purchased by the Richeys
tw o y ea rs ago from a G uernsey
b reed er in P ennsylvania. It took
m any prizes at the Oregon S tate
fa ir la st fall. All who a re in te re s t­
ed in fine stock, although not
b reed ers of G uernseys, are invited
to th e picnic.
On S aturday, Ju n e 4th, the asso ­
ciatio n w ill hold a G uernsey sa le a t
Canby.

held on th e school grounds F rid ay
at noon. All w ent to the playshed
w here tab les w ere loaded w ith all
th e good appetizing things th a t the
ladies had prepared, and th e com ­
m u n ity club had a tre a t of ice
cream for all.' A fter p arta k in g of
th is bountiful rep a st, Mr. M allicoat,
p rin cip al of th e school, p resented
certificates of p erfect atten d an ce to
a num ber of th e pupils. One th a t
he m ade special m ention of w as
B ernice A rm strong who had a tte n d ­
ed th e school for th e past eight
y e a rs w ithout being absent or ta rd y
in the w hole tirile. T his is a record
to be envied by all pupils. A n um ­

at the G resham Union high on F ri­
day evening. Evelyn bedine, a
form er stu d e n t a t th e Boring
school, won a sch o larsh ip to Pacific
university.

fishing.

and Miss E lsie Luoto have been

year.
Miss Amy G ustafson w as o p e ra t­
ed on F riday m orning in St. V in­
ce n ts hospital for appendicitis. She
is rep o rted as g etting along well.
