secure for the society m a terial of
h istorical in te rest which is in d an
ger of passing Into th e hands of
p rivate collectors. To th a t end the
d irectors passed th e follow ing re s
olution at a recen t m eeting, w hich
is being given w ide publicity:
"In view of th e fact th a t m uch
m a terial of histo rical value and in
terest, in the form of letters, Jour
nals, diaries, printed new spapers
and sta te docum ents, and museum
articles, is passing into the hands
of private collectors and being sent
out of the state, th e resid en ts of
Oregon a re requested to com m uni
cate with the Oregon H istorical so
ciety. or an officer thereof, before
p artin g w ith any such m ateria l;
and th a t the press be asked to a s
sist in placing th is request before
