WHAT IS YOrR VOTE WORTH’ Today is election day. By th e tim e th is p ap er reach es the m ajo rity of its rea d ers it will be all over and the shouting will have begun. It will be tim e for ex pression of reg rets or co n g ra tu la tions. T here m ay be some su rp rises. They a re to be expected. I t ’s a p a rt of life and they happen in politics as w ell as other things. The im p o rta n t question is. W hat do you consider your vote w orth? If you value it so highly you w ouldn’t sell it for any price it is w orth a good deal to you, your sta te and your country. But m any value th eir vote so low they would and do give it away. Some even consider voting a huge joke. You p rac tica lly give your vote aw ay if you do not vote your best convictions afte r inform ing y o u r self on candidates and m easures. You p rac tica lly give your vote aw ay if you u n n ecessarily stay aw ay from th e polls and neglect to vote. You p rac tica lly give your vote aw ay if you vote from a purely se lf ish m otive or for im m ediate gain reg a rd le ss of th e g re a te r good to the g re a te r num ber. N arrow minded votes and carelessly m is taken votes w ill have to be c o r rected by fu tu re voters at expense to the v oters and the state. Over and over th e ch a rg e is m ade th a t good, w ell-m inded citizens neglect to vote on sm all p retex ts w hile th e selfish in te rests rally to th e polls. All who prize th e ir liberty and have convictions as to p atrio tic duty should consider it a sacred duty and privilege to vote th eir honest convictions as to candidates and m easures. Not -to do so is to hold one's c it izenship of little value and give aw ay one’s prero g ativ e or sell it for w hat w ill prove to be a m ere m ess of pottage. 0 . A. ( ’.
