Tom M urray, recaptured convict,
has been found guilty of m urd er In the
first degree and sentenced to be e x ­
ecuted on Friday, December 18. The
c o u rt m ade quick work of his tria l
and sentence was pronounced re c e n t­
ly by Judge Kelly of the M arlon coun
ty circ u it court. T he tria l of E lls­
w orth Kelley and Jam es W illos, co­
convicts who escaped with M urray on
A ugust 12 at which tim e guard John
Sw eeney was killed by one of the trio,
a re now on tria l charged w ith m urder

Investigation of plans for a m erger
of the city of P ortland and county of
M ultnom ah by the special governor's
com m ittee will be backed by th e civic
clubs of tlie city, It was decided at a
m eeting of the presid en t's council of
tlie Cham ber of Com merce recently. A
resolution asking all m em ber clubs to
raise funds to pay for technical help
in th e investigation w as passed. The
special com m ittee Is to rep o rt to the
governor prior to the 1927 legislature.
