to his lead dog Balto. T he distan ce
of the laHt lap w as 53 m iles. A t e r
rific blizzard prevailed. The te m p er
a tu re w as considerably below zero.
T he distan ce w as m ade in seven and
n h alf hours. S everal of th e dogs
w ere badly frozen. K asson, the d riv
er, who fought th ro u g h th e severe
blizzard gave th e e n tire c re d it to
Balto.
