nam ely, a sense of unw orthiness to |
p a rta k e of the sacram ent.
It wus not u n til he had been pres- I

idge, to his com plete su rp rise, w as no­

th a t he had been elected a m em ber in
full and re g u la r standing of the F irs t
C ongregational church of W ashing­
ton. His known devotion to the ideals |

of his own life, was held. In lieu of
any testim ony or profession from his ]

independent church knew him to he.
On th e bridge bond issue the G resh­
am p recincts voted 422 for and 240
against.

tu ro p ath bill, 182 for, 283 ag a in st;
W orkm en's C om pulsory C om pensa­
tion bill, 143 for, 362 ag a in st; Incom e
Tax repeal, 296 for, 271 against.
Coolidge says: "I do not favor a c o r­
poration governm ent, a bank g overn­
m ent, a farm governm ent or a labor
governm ent. I um for a common
sense gvoernm ent by all the people a c ­
cording to th e A m erican policy and
under the A m erican esn stitu tio n .”

w ill not be long before a woman
w ill be a candidate for the p residen­
cy. It m ight help to purify politics.

Mrs. Adolph Sohoepper and two
sons, of P ortland, visited with her
b ro th er and wife, Mr. and Mrs. Fred

John Brink met w ith a painful acci­
dent to his eye last week when a pow ­
der cap exploded. It is thought th a t
Ills eye will not be injured p erm a­
nently.

Miss L illian F risk, who has been
visiting her slater, Mrs. Jam es Mc­

D eath ol' W illiam M ueller.
W illiam M ueller died a t his homo
in Sandy W ednesday, Novem ber 5,
aged 75 y ea rs and 11 m onths. He had
been ailing for th e past eight years
and his death w as th o u g h t to be due
o w eakness incident to old age,
oupled w ith an a tta c k of pueum onia.
Mr. M ueller cam e to O regon about 30
irs ago. He had form erly lived at
Boring, but for th e p ast th re e years
tiad been a resid en t of Sandy. He
eaves liis widow. Mrs. M arie M ueller,
a son, W illiam , who resid es in P o rt­
land, and two b ro th ers, John, who
lives in Sandy, and one in Boston,
M assachusetts. A th ird b ro th er in
New York died about th ree days ago.
T he fun eral w ill be held Sunday a f te r ­
noon at 2 o ’clock in the Sandy G er­
m an L u th e ra n ch u rch , conducted by
th e Rev. D. Dobberfulil. In term en t
will be in th e Sandy cem etery. F u ­
n eral arran g e m en ts a re In th e hands
of J. E. M etzger, u n d erta k er.

school board of F airview school dis
trlc t for th e erection of the new
schoolhouse w hich was recen tly au
thorized by th e vote of th e p atro n s of
th e d istric t. T he building w ill be of
tile and brick co n stru ctio n with cast
stone trim m ings. T he roof, en tran ce

CARRIED INTO RIVER

shovel o p erated by th e J. F. Shea com ­
pany, w ere killed T h u rsd ay evening
when th e shovel w as ca rrie d across
50 feet of level ground, down an e m ­
b an k m en t of 75 feet, and plunged into
th e Bull Run riv er ab o u t one-half mile
w est of th e in tak e a t Bull Run by a
landslide.
The Shea com pany h as been en
gaged in doing th e field w ork for the
W illam ette Iron & Steel w orks, p u t­
tin g In the new pipe line to P ortland.
A sm all slide had o ccu rred about
th ree w eeks ago and th e shovel had
been at w ork since T h u rsd ay with a
crew of 60 men c lea rin g aw ay the
debris w hich had resu lted from th is
slide.
