deen is a candidate to succeed him ­
self. T hose who have filed for the
fo u r-y ear term , except Rudeen, are
also recall candidates for th e sam e
office in ca se R udeen is recalled.
T h ere a re several candidates for elec­
tion on the recall ballot to be voted
on along w ith th e recall a t the special
election in connection w ith th e p ri­
m a ries on May 16
E very voter should carefu lly con

and th e nom ination of a county com ­
m issioner for the four-year term .
T hus confusion can be avoided and in ­
te llig e n t and safe action ta k en to help
th e county out of the tan g le w hich has
a rise n over the bridge deals.

would be necessary to nom inate and
elect only one county com m issioner
for a four-year term .
If th e recall ca rrie s, as it undou b t­
edly will. It will be necessary to elect
(not nom inate) a m an for each of th e
th re e places th u s m ade vacant. A r e ­
call candidate ru n s ag a in st a certain
m an who is being recalled, and th e
m an elected serves out the unexpired
term of the com m issioner recalled. In
th e case of W alker and R ankin th is
would be about tw o and a h alf years.
In th e case ot Rudeen about six
m onths.
F or exam ple, Rufus H olm an is up
for nom ination for the re g u la r term of
four years. He Is also a candidate for
election on th e recall a g a in st Rudeen.
If elected on the recall he would
serv e out R udeen’s term and if nom ­
inated on May 16 and elected at the
re g u la r election next November Mr. I
Holm an would continue to serve for I
th e four-year re g u la r term beginning
next Ja n u ary .
T he w hole situ atio n is such th a t it
becom es u n u su a lly im p o rta n t to se ­
lect th e rig h t man.
Mr. H olm an is a m an of unq u es­
tioned in teg rity , m entally and physi­
cally qualified for th e hard ta sk s be-
for th e board of county com m ission­
ers. He is a m an of large affairs and
would handle a five m illion dollar
bridge job w ith th e sam e honesty and
ability th a t he would a live dollar job
of ru lin g or binding at his bindery—
and he has done it. T he in te rsta te
bridge w as a bigger job th a n th e p re s­
en t proposed bridges and w as built a t
a saving of nearly $200,000 to the ta x ­
payers.
He has the experience, having se rv ­
ed as county com m issioner for ten
years.
