to an agreem en t and was discharged
by Judge Bean. F ederal p rosecutors

M errill was tried under a federal
sta tu te on a sim ilar ch a rg e to the one
p la re d ag a in st him at the recent tria l
a t G resham when he was charged with
m ain ta in in g a nuisance under the
s ta te prohib itio n law. But the federal
c h a rg e grew out of th e detective work
of a Mr. G ates and two women who
visited his ro adhouse on May 10 and
claim ed to have p urchased liquor on
th e prem ises,
