“ Business is im proving” says Rob
e rt E. Sm ith.
"F u rth e rm o re , th e
im provem ent is due to th e m ovem ent
of our own products and not to the
artificial stim uli of outside con
ditions.
in short, we are again
stan d in g on ou r own legs, and by our
own efforts a re going forw ard. It is
m ost satisfactory. T he situation is
m ost prom ising. It indicates th a t we
have hit th e bottom . From now on,
we can build solidly for an enduring
period of increasing b etter tim es.
Recovery, however, will not be rapid,
n eith er can we look for anything th a t
resem bles boom tim es, but we can
count on a general Im provem ent th a t
will favorably affect labor, m er
chants, jobbers and o u r m ajor Indus
tries, lum ber, livestock and w heat
p articu larly .
“ A brief glance backw ard shows
clearly why Oregon has cause for op
tim ism . D uring the w ar th e re was a
g rea t in d u stria l inflation. The huge
shipyards, sm all boat-building plants,
th e airplane spruce operations, th e
railroad construction and allied lines
of endeavor brought m illions on m il
lions of outside gold into th e cities of
o u r state. An im m ense arm y of work-1
ers likew ise was im ported. O ur
farm ers, stockm en, lum berm en, can-
tiers and all producers of foodstuffs
were paid high prices for th e ir goods, j
Everyone had money, and as the
flood of gold w ent higher, prices
likew ise bounded upward.
“ And Oregon came to lean on this
sto u t though tem porary prop. Then,
as suddenly, alm ost, as it had come it
was w ithdraw n, and the economic
edifice began to crum ble.”
This au th o rity adds th a t with few
exceptions the w reckage has been
cleared away through readjustm ents.
It has been for many a painful pro
cess. He rem inds us th e re are rigid
rules governing men and business af- j
fairs which cannot be overridden
safely for any length of time.
It is gratifying to know th a t bust- j
uess is convalescing and if reason
able care is exercised it will again |
soon be well and strong and hopeful
ly progressing.

The Fordson T ractor is taking much of the
drudgery out of farm life; it is solving the labor
problem; it is reducing the cost of preparing
land by almost one half of w hat it was with
horses; and it ia saving ona third to one h stf
o f the farmer's time; and making farm life
more attractive.
The Fordson will run your threshing machine
—and at the most opportune time for you. It
will operate the milking machines, s. w ydhr
wood, fill your silo, pum p the water, a..d take
rare of evtrv kind of belt work—
And don't forget—it will plow six to ei<?ht
acres in a trn hour day, hrndii tg tw o plows
with ease.
Thus the Fordson is the i led year-round trac
tor. It will psy for its fall and winter keep m
many ways.
There's a fc“’, story to tell you about the Ford-
ron—nrd a trr e one — come in and get the facts.
Or, if you pr tr, telephone or drop us a card
and we will bring them to you. *
