was held at th e Lynch school last
S atu rd ay , a stro n g plea was m ade by
Miss C anning, one of th e teach ers at
th a t school, for In stru ctio n in music
generally
in th e schools of the
county.
“ In th e schools of th e co u n ty ,”
said Miss C anning, “ th e re are ch il
dren who have little o r no m usical
ap titu d e , but not m any. On the
o th e r hand, th e re are ch ild ren with
la ten t m usical ta len t to whom music
appeals, and many w ith voices th a t
fully w arra n t cu ltiv atio n . As m a t
te rs sta n d now all ure neglected.
"T h e re should be ad eq u ate muBi-
cnl supervision and in stru c tio n in
th e schools of th e county, and th a t
never will be achieved u n til the
county ta k es hold of th e m a tte r.”
Miss C an n in g ’s ta lk on m usic was
m uch ap p reciated by th e council
m em bers, and th e force of h er a rg u
m ents was su p p o rted by a bit of her
own work in th e Lynch school. A
boys’ chorus, w hich she h erself had
train ed , ren d ered a n u m b e r of m u
sical selections in a m an n er c re d it
able to them selves an d to th e ir
teach er.

su b ject of music In th e schools. A
co m m ittee rep rese n tin g th e council
will ta k e th e m a tte r up w ith County
S u p erin ten d en t A lderson at an early
date.
T h ere was a fa ir atten d a n ce of
m em bers of th e council at th e m eet
ing, and th e session was an In te re st
ing one. R eports on school work
were su b m itted by Mrs. Lewis for
Russellville, Mrs. C h arles Bret tell
fo r D istrict 45 and Mrs. Cook for
Lynch.

figs, but these will not have tim e to
