day, it alw ays overlooks som ething
good. T h a t was why th e very con
p lim en tary notice in th e O regonian
re fe rrin g to o u r C h ristm as paper
was not n oticed; it was also th e re a ­
son why we failed to m ention the
O reg o n ian ’s su p erb an n u al.
W hen P o rtla n d ’s big daily u n d er­
tak es to send o u t a yearly review of
state, county an d m unicipal prosper
ity it ta k e s fo u r sections each as
large as an o rd in ary new spaper. And
th e sto rie s are well told. Some of
them a re sto ries w ith o u t w ords, but
they are am azing w orks of a rt and
o fttim es tell m ore th a n the prin ted
page. Such was the O reg o n ian ’s New
Year ed itio n , to which was add ed all
th e world h appenings and local news
of th e day before.
Such a p ap er is th e tru e spokes­
man of th e sta te , reflecting, as it
does its resources in every leg iti­
m ate line of endeavor. Its value is
recognized by every person who is
at all posted upon O reg o n ’s possibil­
ities o r h er place in the eyes of the
world.
