As a m a tte r of en co u rag em en t to
those who a re Inclined to bolt the

day last.
F irs t and forem ost th e re was A
W. L afferty who failed to get the
nom ination as congressm an a t the
prim aries and sought to kill off the
reg u lu r nom inee. T h ere were sev

M arshal N. D ana, for
county clerk ; J. O. H all for school
su p e rin te n d e n t; G. W. Jack so n , for
sheriff, and T heodore Row land, for
assessor. These fo u r men were not
bolters but were of the opinion th a t
they could be elected, and m ade the
g re a te st political m istak e of th e ir
lives.
T hey all had th e rig h t to come o u t
for office at any tim e but th e ir am
bitions
overcam e
th e ir ju d g m e n t
and they w ent down before the
w hirlw ind of ballots th a t m ost of the
republican voters fait was due to be
given to those they hud, in many
eases, helped to nom inate.
T he O utlook
recognized
th e ir
rig h t to come out for office a f te r the
prlm urlea hud nam ed th e regulur
nom inees, but could give them scant
encouragem ent. P erh ap s they were
all b e tte r qualified
for the-offices
than the men elected, but the voters
seem ed to th in k different. Some
oth en . who could be nam ed w ere re
strain ed from offering them selves as
sacrifices, by hard arg u m e n ts from
th e ir friends, and they can now see
th a t th e ir friends were right.
WHEN RICH ARE POOR.
T h ere have fo r som e years been
two th in g s In com m on betw een the
sta te s of O klahom a and New York
They have to g e th e r enjoyed the low

A ccording to the sta te m e n t of th e
co m p tro ller of th e currency Issued
T uesday, New York and O klahom a
now have a n o th e r com m on tie. Re
sources of banking In stitu tio n s In

creased In the sam e ratio.
llut th e re Is a n otable difference
in banking conditions in th ese tw o
sta te s
A gain of 61 per cent in the
resources of New York banks adds a
to ta l of >2,616,0l»0.000 to th e a v a il
able assets. A gain of 61 per cent
in t h e resources of O klahom a btytks
adds a to ta l of 168,000,000.
T h a t is a lesson in finance th a t
should not be overlooked.
W hen
people a re poor to begin w ith, th e ir
w ealth may be doubled and they are
yet poor. If they are rich to begin
w ith, any m arked Increase In th e ir
w ealth gives them riches beyond h u

T here is som e analogy betw een
O klahom a and O regon.
O klahom a
will have to save m oney for many
years before an iu crease of 41 per
cent In h er hank resources will
am o u n t to a billion dollars.
T he
sam e may be said of O regon o r any

in w eultli. com pared to tta re

road to trav el before It will com pare
with New York
Yet Oregon has produced th is year
