in all th e ten granges of M ultnom ah
county. A very sad m istak e was
m ade by som e of th e leading m em ­
bers of th e fa rm e rs’ o rd e r in th is
county th a t they should have been
led to w ork ag a in st th e good roads
m ovem ent, and th u s place th e g range
in th e false place of opposing good
roads. B ut for th e h ea rty in d o rse­
m ent given by C olum bia, G resham
and F airview granges the im pression
would have gone forth th a t M ultno­
mah county granges opposed good
roads, when as a m a tte r of fact, but
a m ere fra ctio n were on th a t side.
An o u tsid e influence, well u n d er­
stood, o p era ted to prevent th e u n a n ­
im ous in d o rsem en t of the good roads
m ovem ent in th is county by th e fa r­
m ers th ro u g h the app o in tm en t of the
good roads com m ittee. T he outcom e
of th e m eeting of th a t com m ittee is
well know n to th e g ran g e rs of this
county.
All honor to th e leading
m em bers of th e granges m entioned
for th e indep en d en t a ttitu d e they
took In th e m a tte r, refusing to be
sw ayed by o u tsid e influence. It was
a victory for good roads, and a d e­
feat for c e rta in a g ita to rs who seek
to exploit labor for th e ir own p er­
sonal ad v an tag e. D efeat of th e road
bonds w ould have been little sh o rt of
a calam ity for th is county for the
good ro ads m ovem ent th ro u g h o u t
th e sta te , as a rebuke to labor agi
ta to rs as well.

Several important propositions have been made to the
people of Gresham that call for a careful consideration on the
part of the citizens of Gresham ami vicinity, ami to this end
¡1 meeting of citizens has been culled for in Metzger’s hall next
Monday night. The meeting will he held under the auspices
of the Commercial club and the call is made by O. A. Eastman,
president of the club. It is not the desire to limit the attend­
ance to members or former members of the club, hut all citi­
zens, including ladies and business men in particular, are
urged to be ¡»resent.
It is desired to give strong support to the move to get the
State Grange to hold its 1916 session here. This is one mat­
ter to which it is hoped this meeting will give strong endorse­
ment.
There is a move to locate a laundry here and the matters
involved will be considered at this meeting: and there are
other things, if time permits, to be presented.
Remember the day and date, Monday, April 19, in Metz­
ger’s hall at 8 o ’clock.

vote was 36,630, of w hich 26,008
were for an d 11,622 opposed.

354 votes. Of th ese th e re w ere 312
for and 4 2 ag a in st. O th er co u n try

two of G resham , but th e resu lt is
