bill both th e w eight an d th e charge.
T his m achine has the ap pearance of a
cylindrical com puting scale and works
on much th e sam e principle. In using,
th e package is placed on the platform
o f th e scale and the mechanism is a l­
lowed to come to rest, when it indicates
the correct w eight. A double row of
key s occupies th e fro n t o f th e scale,
and th e one of these corresponding to
th o ra te p er 100 lbs. for the given dis
tan ce is th en depressed. This resu lts in
a fu rth e r revolution of th e mechanism,
and a t th e same tim e a full record of
th e w eight and charge is p rin ted on the
w aybill. The w aybill is inserted a t the
back of th e cylinder and th e p rin tin g is
done by m eans o f keys th u t strik e a
ty p ew riter ribbon and produce an ink
im pression on th e paper.

betw een a m arksm an and a spring ta r ­

len gland, a m uscle spasm, a grow th or
the dislocation of a jo in t. T hings th a t
>ou may have eaten, or poisons taken

Sweden, have been experim enting
w ith a p p a re n t success on the e ffect
of elec tricity on the minds of pupils. A
sim ilar experim ent has been sta rte d in
New Y ork under the name o f " T h e
E lectrified School Boom to B righton
Dull P u p ils.”
The Stockholm method was to tak e
tw o lots of f i f ty school children each,
av erag in g th e sam e age and physical
condition, and to p u t them in rooms ex
a c tly alike, to all app earan cea One
room, how ever, has insulated w ires clev­
e rly concealed in its walla. N ot even
th e teach er knew w hat had been done.
The atm osphere o f th a t room w as im
pregnatod w ith d elicate electrical waves
ev ery day fo r six months. The results
w ere as follow s:
" T h e children in the m agnetized
room increased in sta tu re tw o and one
h alf inehes; those in the unm agnetized
room increased b u t one and one fourth
