A Typical Field of Ripening Corn in the Northwest.
While corn Is not grown very extensively in the N orthwest, nevertheless farm ers in
some localities have found it a profitable crop. When thoroughly cultivated it may replace,
every third year at least, the Iwirc sum m er fallow laud in p a rts of Oregon and W ashington.
I t may be grown either for grain, fodder or silage, proving very valuable for the latter. When
intended for fodder or silage the crop is planted much more thickly than if for grain.
