Darrin
Padberg
Darrin Padberg (Bob
Shade), age 59, passed
away on Monday, March
24, 2025. His wishes were
that he didn’t want a funer-
al, so there will be a cele-
bration of life for family
and close friends at a near
future date.
A beloved father, son,
brother and uncle, Darrin
was known for his huge
heart and his love for his
family. He would tear up
at every play, Christmas
pageant or sports game that
his children or nieces and
nephews were a part of.
He loved to hunt, fish,
ride snowmobiles and cook
good food for his friends
and family. He farmed
for most of his life and
was part of a long line of
Padberg farmers in the
Ione area, stretching back
to 1870.
He is survived by his
parents, Marvin and Tan-
na; his children, Henry,
Phegley and Haryss; his
siblings, Dustin and Dar-
cee; three nieces and three
nephews; and two step-
daughters.
In lieu of flowers, Dar-
rin would have liked any
contributions to go to the
Jason Halvorsen Scholar-
ship or the Mike Matthews
Scholarship at The Bank of
Eastern Oregon.

Lynnville
(Lynn)
Woodrow
Rill
The family of their
beloved Lynn W. Rill sad-
ly announces his pass-
ing on March 23, 2025. A
graveside service was held
in Heppner on Monday,
March 30.
Lynn was born on Sept.
23, 1932, in Heppner, OR
to Leonard H. and Ninon
Huston Rill. He was the
fifth child born, welcomed
by four older brothers. Lat-
er, his parents were blessed
with three more children,
enriching Lynn’s childhood
with two younger sisters
and a brother. Lynn and
Charleen were close in age
and had many misadven-
tures together, to which Pa
would go find them to bring
them home.
Lynn attended Liber-
ty School through grade
school and continued his
education at Heppner High
School. After graduation,
Lynn was drafted and
proudly served his country,
spending part of his time in
Georgia, where he met his
wife, Evelyn. The couple
would go on to split their
time between Alaska and
Georgia.
Every spring Lynn
looked forward to heading
back to Alaska to run the
heavy equipment for the
roads near Fairbanks, and
his contributions can still
be seen (or driven on) to-
day, as you would be hard
pressed to find a road with-
out his mark on it. There
was hardly any equipment
he couldn’t run.
Lynn’s love for Alaska
ran deep and he shared that
love with his family. Two
of his brothers also spent
time in Alaska, one working
the roads alongside Lynn
and the other gold mining
alongside him. Later, an-
other brother and his family
visited Lynn and Evelyn in
Alaska, and Lynn and Eve-
lyn graciously opened their
home (which was a place
of warmth and hospitality)
to them.
During his travels from
Alaska to Georgia and back,
Lynn often traveled through
Oregon and Washington
to visit is brothers. Many
nieces and nephews trea-
sured these visits and would
travel from miles around to
see him.
Lynn is survived by his
wife of 62 years, Evelyn;
their children Charlotte
Lyndon and Shane (Kris-
ta); granddaughter Katrina
(Josh); and great-grand-
daughter Ella. He is also
survived by his two sisters,
Charlean and Sharon, and
two brothers, Myron and
William, and many nieces
and nephews.
He was preceded in
death by his parents, Leon-
ard and Ninon, and three
brothers, Evan, Noel and
Cecil.
Lynn will be greatly
missed by all who knew
him. His legacy of hard
work, love of family and
dedication to the land will
live on the hearts of those
who were fortunate to call
him family and friend.

Neva
Cheyenne
DeMayo
Mahon
Neva Cheyenne De-
Mayo Mahon, 73, of Hep-
pner passed away on Friday,
March 28, 2025. A funeral
service will be held for
Neva on Saturday, April 5,
at 10 a.m. at the Hopeful
Saints Ministry in Heppner.
A graveside service will
follow at the Heppner Ma-
sonic Cemetery. Afterward,
please join the family back
at the church for a meal and
fellowship.
Neva was born in Gard-
ner, KS to Melven Lee
Randall and Maud Everett
Randall. She had a life-
long love of education and
earned a B.A. degree in
religious studies, as well
as one in literature. She
enjoyed sharing her love of
education as a teacher for
many years.
She lived in many
states before settling in
Oregon. She loved to travel
and took advantage when-
ever she could, even if it
meant leaving her beloved
cat Max home alone. She
and her husband David
DeMayo made their home
in Heppner until his passing
in 2020. Neva had many
different jobs but she was
always a caregiver and a
homemaker first.
Neva was always very
active in her church and
her community. It was here
that she met William Ma-
hon at All Saints Epis-
copal Church. They had
an immediate connection
through their shared faith
in Jesus Christ. During
their relationship they loved
to travel, fish and share
their morning devotional;
whatever it was, as long as
they were together. They
were married on May 1,
2022, and were beside each
other all the way through
her passing. They both felt
blessed to have found each
other.
Neva is survived by
her husband Bill Mahon,
brother Ross DC Randall,
and brother-in-law Scott
Burnside.
She is preceded in death
by her first husband, David
Richard DeMayo, and her
parents, Melven and Maud.
In lieu of flowers, me-
morial contributions can be
made to the Hopeful Saints
Ministry.
Sweeney Payton Mor-
tuary has been entrust-
ed with the arrangements.

lence messages for the fam-
ily at sweeneypaytonmortu-
