Heppner Mustangs overcome
Cardinals at Columbia River Clash
The Heppner Mustang
boys’ basketball team won
one of their three games at
the Columbia River Clash
last week. The tourna-
ment-style event is held in
Umatilla at the high school
and junior high school
gyms. It brings together
some of the best compe-
tition from all over the
region and from different
classifications.
The Mustangs start-
ed off by playing the The
Dalles Riverhawks, a 4A
school that had some tre-
mendous three-point shoot-
ers. Heppner started strong
in the matchup until mid-
way through the first quarter
when they got doubled up
12-6. The Dalles stretched
their lead to 20-9 at the end
of the first quarter.
Heppner played really
well in the second quarter
and cut the Riverhawk lead
midway through the quarter
to only four points at 22-18.
The Mustangs then trailed
at halftime by the score of
33-22.
The second half saw
the Riverhawk sharpshoot-
ers hit deep three after deep
three to stretch their lead
out. The Mustangs strug-
gled to put the ball in the
basket and trailed 52-28 at
the end of three quarters.
The fourth quarter was
much of the same and the
Riverhawks defeated the
Mustangs by the score of
66-40.
Leading the scoring
for Heppner was Gage
Heideman with 11 points.
Gage also tallied two re-
bounds in the game. Kea-
ton Coiner followed with
nine points, and he hauled
down a team high seven
rebounds. With five points
each were Mason Orem and
Alakae Rodriguez. Mason
also had two assists and
Alakae finished with 1 re-
bound and three assists.
Tripp Stewart had three
points, two rebounds and
two assists while Caylan
Proudfoot had two points,
two rebounds and two as-
sists. Caleb George scored
two points and had three
rebounds for the Mustangs
and Marty Medina recorded
two rebounds and Joseph
Albitre finished with two
assists in the game.
Next up for the Mus-
tangs was the 3A Riverside
Pirates. This team qualified
for the 3A State Playoffs
last season and returned
the majority of that team.
Heppner started the game
off slowly and struggled to
score. The Mustangs trailed
20-14 at the end of the first
quarter. Heppner could only
manage to score two points
in the second quarter and
trailed 37-16 at halftime.
The third quarter con-
tinued much like the second
quarter did and the Pirate
sharpshooters continued
their hot shooting. The
Mustangs trailed 53-23 at
the end of the third quarter.
Both coaches cleared their
benches in the fourth quar-
ter to give every member
of their teams some playing
time. The Pirates won the
game by the score of 56-24.
Mason Orem led
the team in scoring with
14 points and he also had
three rebounds. Next with
four points and a rebound
was Heideman. With three
points each were Albitre
and Keaton Coiner. Al-
bitre also had a rebound
and Keaton finished with a
team-high seven rebounds.
George finished with one
rebound and two assists,
Stewart and Proudfoot had
two rebounds each and
Rodriguez finished with a
rebound. With one assist
in the game was Marty
Medina.
The Mustangs finished
off the tournament with a
win over the Ione/Arlington
Cardinals by the score of
43-24.
The Cardinals scored
the first five points of the
game before the Mustangs
caught fire and soon evened
the score at 7-7. The Mus-
tangs led the game 11-10 at
the end of the first quarter.
The second quarter is
where the Mustangs took
control of the game and
led at the half 21-13. Hep-
pner continued to control
things in the third quarter
and stretched their lead to
37-20 at the end of the quar-
ter. A highly competitive
game continued through
the fourth quarter with both
teams giving it their all.
When the final horn sound-
ed, the Mustangs got the
win by the score of 43-24.
Orem once again
led the Mustangs with 16
points and he also had two
rebounds. Next with 12
points, two rebounds and
three assists was Albitre.
Keaton Coiner was next
with eight points, a game
high 10 rebounds and an
assist. With three points,
one rebound and one assist
was George, and finishing
the game with two points
each were Proudfoot and
Darby Spivey. Proudfoot
also had five rebounds and
two assists in the game
while Spivey finished with
six rebounds for the Mus-
tangs. Rodriguez had two
rebounds and an assist,
Heideman finished with
three rebounds, Medina had
two rebounds, Jace Wilson
one and Stewart had an
assist.
The Mustangs are 3-2
so far on the young season.
They traveled to Dufur on
Tuesday to play the Rangers
at 7:30 p.m. This weekend
Heppner will host the Hol-
iday Hoops Tournament
and will play the Vernonia
Loggers on Friday night at
7:30. On Saturday Nov. 21,
the Mustang JV boys’ team
will play the Vernonia JV
team at 9 a.m. The Heppner
varsity boys will play the
Echo Cougars at 3:30 Sat-
urday afternoon.

Lexington residents asked to complete survey
The Town of Lexington
is asking all its residents
to complete and return an
income survey so the town
can take the next step in
upgrading its water system.
The survey is a requirement
in order to seek funding for
the town’s water system
upgrade.
Surveys were mailed
to all residents, but they
can also be completed on-
line. A door-to-door survey
will also be conducted this
weekend to help increase
response rates.
Lexington recently
completed a Water System
Master Plan, which iden-
tified several necessary
improvements to the water
system.
The town is applying
for a Community Develop-
ment Block Grant through
Business Oregon to ad-
dress necessary upgrades.
Before being considered,
Lexington must show its
eligibility by having a third
party successfully complete
a random sample income
survey of the community.
A high response rate is
necessary for the survey to
be considered valid. Since
the required response rate
has not been reached, Ru-
ral Community Assistance
Corporation (RCAC) will

Exclusive Farm Use (EFU). The subject property includes 7,300 acres and is located on a number of tax lots
in Township 2N Range 26 and 3N Range 26. The property is approximately 10 miles southwest of Irrigon and
17 miles west of Echo, east of Bombing Range Road. Criteria for approval include Morrow County Zoning
Ordinance (MCZO) Article 3 Sections 3.010(B)(23) and (D)(8) and (D)(9) as well as ORS 215.246 regarding
land application of industrial process wastewater.
