SALEM – Represen-
tative Greg Smith (R-Hep-
pner) has announced the
addition of Calvin Ben-
nett to his legislative team.
Bennett steps into the role
previously held by Dawson
Quinton, who served in
Smith’s office for three and
a half years. In this new
role, Bennett will contrib-
ute to shaping legislative
priorities and advancing
initiatives for District 57.
Calvin Bennett is a
graduate of Mitchell High
School and Eastern Oregon
University (EOU), where
he earned a double major
in Business Administration
and Marketing, alongside a
minor in Political Science.
During his senior year at
EOU, Bennett served as
President of the Associ-
ated Students of Eastern
Oregon University, gain-
ing firsthand experience
with legislative processes
and Representative Smith’s
work in the state capitol.
Bennett expressed en-
thusiasm for the opportu-
nity, stating, “Representa-
tive Smith’s significance in
Salem is truly unique. He
is someone who everyone
looks up to in the capitol,
and it is a deep honor to
work with him.”
Representative Smith
shared similar sentiments
about Bennett joining the
team. “I am so incredibly
excited to work alongside
Calvin this session. He
has an impressive resume,
honest character, and it
does not hurt that he is
from one of my favorite
small towns in Oregon,”
said Smith.
Representative Greg
Smith, recently elected
to his thirteenth term as a
State Representative, is the
longest-serving member in
the Oregon Legislature and
the fourth longest-serving
State Representative in
Oregon history. He cur-
rently serves as Co-Chair
of the Joint Ways and
Means Subcommittee on
General Government, Co-
Vice Chair of the full Joint
Ways and Means Commit-
tee, and ranking member
of the House Revenue
Committee.
Smith represents the
entirety of Morrow, Gil-
liam, Sherman, Wheeler,
and Wasco counties, as
well as portions of Clack-
amas, Jefferson, Marion,
and Umatilla Counties.

The laydown yard lo-
cated near Lexington, is a
key logistical site for the
construction of the Wheat-
ridge Renewable Energy
Facility in Morrow Coun-
ty. This yard facilitates
the delivery, staging, and
preparation of wind turbine
components for installa-
tion at the Wheatridge East
Wind Facility.
Timeline: In September
2019, turbine components
began arriving at the lay-
down yard for distribution
to final installation sites.
Purpose: The yard
served as a centralized loca-
tion to organize and trans-
port parts for the facility’s
300-megawatt (MW) wind
farm, which includes over
100 turbines.
Location Role: Posi-
tioned near Lexington, Or-
egon, the yard supported
the broader development of
the Wheatridge Renewable
Energy Facility, which also
incorporates a 50-MW solar
array and a 30-MW battery
storage system.
This logistical hub was
integral to the successful
completion of the facility,
which began wind farm
operations in December
2020 and added solar and
battery storage components
in spring 2022. Together,
these technologies are said
to provide enough power
to approximately 100,000
homes.
