Dear Kamala
I know we don’t know each
other but, since it looks like
you may be in a position to
make decisions that will
greatly affect my life, I
thought I should make you
aware of some things you
might want to consider. 1)
As of the writing of this
letter, you are the current
VP and should probably do
the things you claim you
will do as President, like
implementing the ideas
you got from Trump…. for
example. You could even
start on that wall. Remem-
ber…we build walls so
people will go through the
appropriate doors. 2) Next
time you’re put in charge of
something (like a border),
you might want to actual-
ly do something. Pretty
sure sex trafficking, drug
trafficking, and terrorist
infiltration are all bad for
the environment. 3)Talking
to reporters and answering
questions is something you
should do. Communication
is kinda important when
you wanna be the leader
of the free world. 4) Leave
the World of Make-believe
to Disney. Find your real
accent and stick with it. 5)
Read the second amend-
ment. It means sane peo-
ple can own guns. In fact,
you might even consider
getting your concealed car-
ry license. Doesn’t look
like Secret Service pro-
tection is all that great. 6)
Unless you’re talking to
5-year-olds (or your Liberal
friends), please stop speak-
ing as if you’re addressing
a kindergarten class. It’s
annoying. 7) Speaking of
school…. here’s a quick
biology lesson. A woman
has a body. Her child has a
body. They are not the same
thing. She has a right to
dismember her own body.
She does not have a right
to dismember her child’s
body, no matter where that
child resides. I suggest you
visit a Planned Parenthood
and see exactly what the
“Reproductive Rights” you
support really involves.
8) Biology II; Boys have
boy parts. Girls have girl
parts. Boys do not need
tampons. Please alert your
friend Walz to this. 9) If
you end inflation, secure the
border, jail criminals, and
stop destroying the family
unit….I bet the homeless
crisis will end. 10) I work
hard for those tax dollars
you take. Stop giving it to
our enemies and illegals.
Just remember…. You will
eventually run out of other
people’s money. 11) There
are a lot of folks that would
like to be “unburdened by
what has been” the last 4
years. You might wanna
stop using that phrase. It’s
just a sad reminder. 12)
I hear Putin is cheering
for you…probably not the
best endorsement. And if
you really are concerned
about a “threat to Democ-
racy”, I suggest you aim
for a stronger standing in
the face of our enemies…
aka China, Russia, and
Iran….and vote for Trump.
13) Stop with the kackle.
It’s creepy. I know this
is a lot to ponder but just
remember, the greater the
responsibility, the greater
the consequence. You are
currently on the wrong side.
Jesus will forgive you if you
ask, but you need to mean
it. “Let the wicked forsake
their ways and the unrigh-
teous their thoughts. Let
them turn to the LORD, and
he will have mercy on them,
and to our God, for he will
freely pardon.” Isaiah 55:7.

Local firefighters to honor
9/11 heroes with Memorial
Stair Climb
On Monday, September
16th, at 6:30 p.m., South
Morrow County firefight-
ers will gather at the rodeo
grounds for a special 9/11
Memorial Stair Climb to
honor the brave first re-
sponders who made the
ultimate sacrifice on Sep-
tember 11, 2001. In tribute
to the 343 firefighters who
lost their lives that day, our
community’s firefighters
will ascend the grandstands,
symbolically representing
the 110 floors of the World
Trade Center that their fel-
low firefighters climbed in
the line of duty.
This event, open to the
public, is not only an oppor-
tunity for firefighters to pay
their respects, but for the
entire community to come
together in remembrance.
Residents are encouraged
to attend and support their
local fire department as they
complete this meaningful
climb. The community is
welcome to participate in
the climb as well!
A complimentary hot
dog dinner will be provided
for attendees, making it a
family-friendly evening of
reflection and unity. The
local fire department hopes
that the event will serve as
a reminder of the courage
and sacrifice displayed on
9/11 and as a symbol of the
community’s appreciation
for the ongoing work of
firefighters everywhere.

Florence Nolan, previous Heppnerite who now lives
in Redmond at Brookside Place, was recently surprised
by someone still familiar from many, many years ago in
Heppner. Sharon Brace has also moved to Redmond and
has apparently changed very little since moving from
Heppner over 20 years ago! Some residents will remember
Sharon’s cooking at the Wagon Wheel and Cal’s Café.
David and April Sykes traveled to Ashland over the
Labor Day weekend where they attended two Shakes-
perean plays and celebrated their anniversary. The cou-
ple saw Macbeth at the indoor Angus Bowmer Theatre
the first day and then Much Ado About Nothing the next
evening at the outdoor Allen Elizabethan Theater. Much
Ado was the same play they saw on their honeymoon
there 48 years ago. Their accommodations were within
walking distance of the plays and also the beautiful Lith-
ia Park and the many restaurants and shops they visited
before heading home.
After two and a half years of living with new hus-
band’s red countertop kitchen, Neva has him, William
(Bill) Mahon, ready to remodel their kitchen. Interest-
ingly to Neva was a conversation she had with Linda
Helget, the newer wife of Bill’s cousin Ted Helget when
they recently gave Mahon’s a surprise visit on their way
back home to Lebanon, Oregon, from Rupert, Idaho.
Linda related that when she first married Ted, his kitch-
en countertop was “bubble gum pink”! It took her five
years of marriage to get rid of that monstrosity, so Neva
is ahead of the game. Also, Neva and Bill recently had
his sister Patty Harshman and their neighbor Pat Gee
over for a chicken-pot-pie lunch to not so fondly “Fare-
well!” the old kitchen. A good time around the table was
had by all.
Proud grandma Sheridan Tarnasky reports that
Delaynee Angell, a senior in Weston-McEwen High
School, was chosen as one of four vocalists – out of 25
who auditioned – to sing The National Anthem at Round
Up events. Delayne was to be featured on Monday at the
“Extreme Bulls” bull riding competition.
In Oregon for their annual trip from Montana for the
Pendleton Round Up, Bob and Pat Fetsch visited Diana
Ball last Friday afternoon before traveling to Pendleton
to stay the week with Tom and Marlene Currin (Bob’s
sister). While in Heppner, Fetsches and Diana joined
Merlin and Claudia Hughes for lunch at DeSpain’s Piz-
za.
It looked like something from a science fiction sto-
ry, something futuristic or alien – the large, dark gray
vehicle with a streamlined, sloping profile in front of the
market. Darkened windshield, darker back and side win-
dows, large tires with black rims, no license plate, and
only “Foundation Series” discernable for any identifica-
tion. Just as an internet search produced some informa-
tion, the owner arrived and seemed happy to explain the
electric Tesla vehicle he had ordered in 2019 (a tempo-
rary license permit hardly noticeable in the back dark re-
cessed window). The interesting dashboard had nothing
but one monitor in the center, and the articulated cover
of the small-pickup-sized bed rolled up with the touch of
an inconspicuous lever. Travel distance on a charge was
also a discussion topic….
First-time parents Tanner and Madison Rietmann
welcomed twin baby boys on August 27 th . “Otto Gregg”
and “Creed Michael” are identical and greeted this world
at a very healthy five-plus pounds each. Grandmother
Shelly (Turner) Rietmann reports that “Gregg and I
could not be happier… and Madison’s parents, Mike and
Kim Carlin are pretty ecstatic also.” And when first-time
parents Maddie (Lindsay) and Ryan Polaski welcomed
their petite Lakyn Jean on July 17, the Turner family cir-
cle continued to grow! Congratulations to grandparents
Alan and Leslie Polaski and Missy (Turner) and Todd
Lindsay. Also special is that Lakyn shares her middle
name, Jean, with Missy (Melissa Jean) and great grand-
mother Jeanann Turner.
Last Saturday evening held a successful 50 th reunion
for the class of ’74. About 60 classmates and spouses
were joined by five of their teachers for an evening at the
Elks of dining, reminiscing, and laughter. There truly is
something about school friendships.
Melody Henderson took Susan Hisler up on her re-
quest for help in “sprucing up the ‘H’ on the hill with
new paint... and how about adding a big “74” while at
it?! After all, it was just before the 50th reunion for the
HHS class of ‘74. Mason Orem, Nick Wenbrg, Jaime
Cavan, Zac Brown, and John Lindsay did the heavy tot-
ing of additional rocks up the hill for the job. Melody’s
helpers with the placement and painting were her son
Grady, Kaley Paterson and her two children, Cooper and
Colbid, Charlie Sumner and his two grandchildren, Han-
nah and Abbey. Instigator Hisler and other classmates
were very appreciative of this hard work accomplished
in 90+ degree weather! Hisler sees this as people doing
nice things, making a difference here at home, helping to
carry on the “H” tradition! (With a little added bonus!)
