Ione city council discusses wastewater
project and property upkeep

At the May 14th Ione
council meeting, a citizen
expressed gratitude for the
gravel that was brought in
but raised concerns that it
had been washed away due
to the rain. In response, a
council member assured
her that they would investi-
gate obtaining more gravel
and mentioned that the
previous supply had been
donated by the county.
The council discussed
an RV project proposed
by a resident of Ione. This
project involved the closure
of multiple streets and the
potential addition of a new
laundromat. However, the
discussion was postponed
until they could determine
the appropriate zoning for
the area. Council member

businesses that we have
here.”
The USDA conducted
an ADA site visit and de-

to be redone along with
updates to the bathroom.
Council member and city
administrator Liz Peterson
mentioned that a tree was
also causing issues and
needed to be addressed.
Additionally, they planned
to relocate the handicap
SDUNLQJ VSRW DQG UHSODFH
the hand railing in the bath-
room, as well as move the
bathroom mirror. Peterson
explained that the most
expensive repairs would be

It was decided that they
would solicit bids from
contractors for the neces-

Moving on, Peterson
informed the council that
WKHDXGLWRUVZHUHVWLOOZRUN-
ing on the audit due to the
need to correct previous
year’s audits
Dane Maben, an en-
gineer participating via
Zoom, provided an over-
view of the wastewater
project. He reported that
contractors had visited the
VLWH DQG DVNHG TXHVWLRQV
with around 12 individuals
showing up. Bids for the
project were scheduled to
be submitted on May 23rd,
allowing contractors to
participate virtually through
Zoom. Maben stated that
he would review the bids
and announce the lowest
bidder. He also mentioned
that Anderson Perry, a con-
VWUXFWLRQ¿UPZRXOGHQVXUH
compliance with the state
construction board and re-
view the bid documents.
Maben would then write a
letter summarizing the bid
results and recommend how
the council should proceed.
Following the selection of a
contractor, the city would
need to issue a notice of
intent to award the contract,
initiating a 7-day protest
period. Afterward, the city
could give the notice of

with the awarded contrac-
tor. The council agreed to
schedule a special meeting
on the 29 th to discuss the
process in more detail.
They also decided that the
responsibility of approv-
ing change orders during
construction would be de-
termined in the special ses-
sions meeting to be held on
the 29 th . Maben mentioned

that it had been accounted
for in the budget.
Liz Peterson brought
up a complaint from some-
one outside of town re-
garding the condition of a
local restaurant’s property.
Another council member
mentioned an issue with
excessive weeds on a prop-
erty adjacent to his own.
Although the possibility
of sending letters to the
restaurant owner and the
neighboring property own-
er was discussed, it was not
confirmed if they would
proceed with this action.

died from colon cancer at
his home in San Diego on
May 27, 2024, at the age
of 71
