Elizabeth Peterson was
sworn in as the newest Ione
School District Director at
a short and succinct board
meeting July 25 in Board-
man. Peterson, who won the
election as a write-in can-
didate, replaces outgoing
board of directors member
Tricia Rollins. Rollins was
recognized for her service
on the board at the June 27
meeting.
While Peterson is the
only new face on the school
board, the members also
selected their chair and
vice chair for the school
year. Rob Crum was again
elected board chair, while
director Paola Cabrera was
elected vice chair.
Tracey Johnson stepped
into her new role as Ione
School District Superinten-
dent at the meeting. John-
son takes over the role from
former superintendent Kev-
in Dinning, who announced
his resignation in April of
p.m.
Registration will take
place Monday, Aug. 8, from
4-5 p.m., but pre-registra-
tion is encouraged at https://
heppnerhsfootball.gearup-
sports.net/. Check-in for
gear will be from 2:30-3:30
p.m. Students should wear
shorts and athletic shoes,
though some used shoes
will be available.
Like last year, gear will
ship directly to the player’s
house. Because of global
supply chain issues, fami-
lies are encouraged to order
as soon as possible.
Two men injured in shooting
this year.
Johnson told the board
that there are some teacher
positions still open for the
2023-24 school year, as
well as the need for a new
head secretary. In other staff
updates, Stephanie McElli-
gott is moving to first grade,
while the district has hired
Autum Ringer to teach fifth
grade.
Johnson also said there
would be some changes
to pickup, delivery and
bus zones for the school,
though she did not specify
what those changes would
be. The changes will be due
to the construction for the
school bond project. John-
son said maps would be
made available to let staff
and parents know which
areas would be accessible
or not accessible.
Staff in-service dates
will be Aug. 21-24. The
first day of school will be
Monday, Aug. 28.
