Bank of EO welcomes
two new board members camp
Burns, Cain bring years of
experience to bank board
BEO Bancorp and its
subsidiary, Bank of Eastern
Oregon, recently added Ma-
rie Cain and Josh Burns to
its board of directors.
Cain was raised near
Weston, OR. She graduated
from Oregon Institute of
Technology with degrees in
accounting and small busi-
ness entrepreneurship. She
is also financial planning
and analysis certified.
She served as staff ac-
countant with Dickey &
Tremper, LLP. She joined
Threemile Canyon Farms
as staff accountant, before
serving as financial con-
troller, and then financial
planning & analysis man-
ager. Cain recently began
working for Umatilla Elec-
tric Cooperative as manager
of accounting.
She is a board member
and current secretary of the
executive board for REAL
Oregon (Resource Edu-
cation Agricultural Lead-
ership) and has served in
an advisory capacity for
various Morrow County
committees.
She has a passion for
volleyball and was recent-
ly selected head coach for
Weston-McEwen High
School volleyball, having
served as Riverside High
School volleyball head
coach for the past seven
seasons.
“Marie brings knowl-
edge of local communities
and a strong accounting
background with her to our
board. She understands our
rural roots and will serve
our shareholders well,” said
Bank of EO President and
CEO Jeff Bailey.
Cain and her husband,
Jacob, live in Athena with
their two children.
Burns was raised in
Arkansas and is a graduate
of the U.S. Air Force Acad-
emy. Upon completion of
his service commitment,
he began his career with
Walmart and ultimately
became general manager
of the Walmart Distribution
Center in Hermiston. While
working for Walmart, he
earned his Master of Sci-
ence in Leadership and
Ethics from John Brown
University.
In 2020 Burns joined
Swanson Insurance Group,
serving as general manager
and producer.
He has been active in

munity, previously serving
on the Hermiston Chamber
of Commerce Board as well
as current president of the
Hermiston Rotary Club,
and a member of the Herm-
iston planning commission
and the Hermiston Airport
advisory board.
“We are excited to have
Josh join our board of di-
rectors. His mix of profes-
sional experience and civic
involvement, coupled with
his military leadership ex-
perience, make him a great
fit to represent our bank’s
shareholders,” said Bailey.
Burns and his wife,
Kimber, live in Hermiston
with their two children,
Jace, 15, and Keely, 12.

Bannock War at
Tamástslikt
The largely misunder-
stood history of the Ban-
nock War is told in the re-
cent publishing of Northern
Paiutes of the Malheur:
High Desert Reckoning in
Oregon Country. Author
David Wilson will discuss
his book at Tamástslikt Cul-
tural Institute on Saturday,
June 24, at 2:30 p.m. The
free event is open to the
public.
A 2023 Oregon Book
Award finalist, Northern
Paiutes of the Malheur
challenges previous notions
that Paiute Chief Egan, of
Cayuse descent, was the
main figure responsible
for initiating the Bannock
War. Wilson uncovers the
larger story of the Bannock
War and details the Indian
Agent offenses that created
an illusion that the Paiutes
were architects of their
own misery. The Bannock
War ended on the Umatilla

Park recently to help out
at the annual Tri-County
4-H Camp. Fourth through

The MCSO volunteers
were given the task of in-

building. Other volunteers
were teaching about fish-

cused on identifying animal
tracks, animal pelts and
trapping.
The campers split up
into three groups and ro-

three, hands-on learning
events.
Also included in the
